From History: Today's Famous Birthdays

This is an effort to provide some information on Five selected famous personalities born on this day.

1. Tara Reid

Tara Reid is an American actress who is famous for her roles in American Pie series of movies.

Other notable films of her include Urban Legend, Alone in the Dark, Dr. T & the Women etc.

Before acting in movies, she acted as a child artist and was part of many top brand advertisements.

She even acted in a Bollywood move "Tie the Knot" in 2016.

2. Roy Wood

Roy Wood is an British singer, song write and also plays multiple instruments.

He was successful in 1960's and 1970's.

He was the co-founder of the "The Move, Electric Light Orchestra and Wizzard".

He was honored by BBC by saying that "Roy Wood is responsible for some of the most memorable sounds of the Seventies".

He received an honorary doctorate in 2015 from University of Derby for his contribution to rock and pop music.

3. Edmond Halley

Edmond Halley was an Astronomer, mathematician, geophysicist and meteorologist who is known for Halley's comet which is related to computing the orbit.

He was the second Astronomer Royal (senior post in the Royal Households of the United Kingdom).

4. Dorothy Day

Dorothy Day was an American Journalist, Catholic convert and social activist who became famous in Catholic Worker Movement.

She was the co-founder of Catholic Worker newspaper in 1933.

Pope Francis named her among the list of exemplary Americans alongside Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr.

American Catholic Church recognizes her as "Servant of God".

5. Jack Kilby

Jack Kilby was an American Electric Engineer who worked on first integrated circuit in 1958 along with Robert Noyce.

He was awarded with Nobel Prize Nobel Prize in Physics in 2000.

He was also the inventor of handheld calculators and thermal printer.

For his Nobel Prize, Former American President Bill Clinton wrote about him as "You can take pride in the knowledge that your work will help to improve lives for generations to come".
