I just do not understand. Need help with chat
I have tried many times to register for chat. For name, I have used grannycooks, my real name, my email name. I have tried numerous new passwords, and the extremely long password steemit gave me when I first signed on. I get an error message saying account does not exist, account exists, but that is an invalid password, etc.
I literally made a chart using the various names and various passwords, to make sure I had used every combination to no avail.
I have even tried to register a new account. I give up.
What kind of chat is it? The Discord channels? Or some other chat?
The steemit chat. When you go to the top of the screen, right hand side you see three horizontal bars. Click it and it brings up a welcome menu. One of the things you can choose is steemit chat. One of the newby tips is to join chat, but I have spent over an hour trying to sign on. They send me a new password by email, I plug that in, and I still get the same old error msg. Either name is incorrect, email is incorrect (but they just sent me the new password on that very email) or password is incorrect.
There is a funny girl who makes You Tube videos using a facial distortion app that makes her eyes bug out and her lips look like sausages. Her by-line is "Aint Doin It". Well, stealing her line and saying about signing on to chat, I aint doin it.
I've never tried that chat and I'm with you on the aint doin it.
I to have trouble understanding the chat part of this adventure. Did you add a @ before your grannycooks. That may be it just thinking. Love for you

Thanks for the excellent article. Chat sounds like something I would love to participate in. I waited till now to answer your comment because I wanted to have time to sign up.
I have just wasted another 30 minutes trying to sign on. I continue to get the same error msgs. Either my email is already registered, or password is incorrect, no matter which password I try of several that were emailed to me, or this is an incorrect email. If they are sending me new passwords through my email, how can it tell me my email is incorrect. Sorry, NOT doing this again.
Are you using the same password that you were sent for your steemit? If so DO NOT USE THAT PASSWORD!

no, since they asked for my email name, I used my email password. I figured the chat would work off my email. When that did not work, I tried to reset a new password. No go. I tried opening new account with all new user name and password. no go. I have used every configuration I could juggle between the user names, email name, passwords, etc.
OK just because the name is steemit chat it is not part of steemit so you are setting up a new account at steemit chat. You do not use your password from steemit nor your email password. Yes a email of your password will be sent to your email from steemit chat and that will be your password to steemit chat.
