Safra Kesesi
Safra kesesi, karaciğerde üretilen safra salgısının depolandığı karaciğerin alt yüzüne bağlı bir kesedir. Her gün karaciğerde yaklaşık 600 ml safra salgısı üretilir ve safra kesesinde biriken safra sıvısı ilgili kanallar aracılığıyla onikiparmak bağırsağına dökülür. Safra kesesinden salgılanan safra sıvısı, sindirime yardımcı görev üstlenir. Sıvı olmasına rağmen kimyasal sindirimin aksine fiziksel sindirime yardımcı olur.
Safra kesesinin haci yaklaşık 50 ml olmasına rağmen içerisinde depolanan safra sıvısına bağlı olarak 6 katına kadar çıkabilmektedir. Ayrıca safra kesesinde biriken safra sıvısının yoğunluğu 10 kat kadar artabilir. Safra kesesinden safra sıvısının onikiparmak bağırsağına boşaltılmasıyla safra sıvısı bağırsaktaki yağlı maddelerin emilimini kolaylaştırır. Ayrıca safra sıvısı kimyası nedeniyle kalın bağırsakta ilerleyen sindirilen besinlerin posasının bozulmasını önler ve dışkıya da rengini veren safra sıvısıdır.
