RAPTURE IS NEAR.. BE READY
As we read we see this chapter reassure believers of the certainty of Christ second coming. Unbelievers, doubters and scoffers express their doubt concerning Christ’s return. They argue against the sure prophecy.
They scorn and scoff at the prophecy and possibility of the creation of new heavens and a new earth. The scoffers and apostates aim at overthrowing the faith and steadfastness of true believers. Apostle peter had to remind God’s people of the sure word of prophecy given by the old testament prophets and the spirit inspired word of our lord,
He gave a strong affirmation of the truth of the doctrine and the prophecy that the lord Jesus Christ will surely return; and that the earth and all things contained therein will be burnt up. he also exhorts us to be holy and prepared.
Believers stand in danger of forgetting the truth they were formerly established in and also in danger of being turned away by prevailing errors. “ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness” (2 peter 3:17)
Scoffers are those who disregard and reject the sound teaching of God’s word, they willingly chose to be ignorant, their problem is not lack of opportunity to hear or know the truth doctrines of Christ or lack of intelligence to read, search and understand the word of God.
First! Christians should recognize the scoffers as “deceitful workers transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ”(2 corinthians 11:13), and reject their subtle wiles, clever tricks and deceptive arguments.as Satan deceived eve and caused the human race to fall.
It is prophetic term, used in scriptures to describe the time when Jesus will come back to bring the flaming fury and anger of God on all the sinners in the world, it is a future, eschatological day of devastation, doom and damnation.
Christ is coming again, he will come at God’s appointed time.
