Is Cupping Therapy Relieves Fibromyalgia Pain?
Some studies suggest that cupping, when combined with Chinese acupuncture, may reduce the symptoms of fibromyalgia more effectively than traditional drugs such as amitriptyline. Cupping therapy is often practiced by practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine. The theory behind cupping is to move or stimulate the body's natural energy, also called kia.
How is cupping treated?
The cupping treatment involves heating the air in a glass cup. Some air is removed from the cup and the cup is quickly placed on the skin. How to measure the effectiveness of cupping treatment?
Cupping studies usually measure their effectiveness by comparing them to other similar treatments. Therefore, while some studies suggest that cupping has a role in the treatment of fibromyalgia, the critical answer to the actual role of cupping will wait until more extensive and accurate studies are completed.
