Benefits Of Not Drinking Alcohol Coming Decembre 29/11/2017

in #health7 years ago

Hello Steemian I will already hold my hands up and say that the chances of me not drinking personally wont happen, well atleast not during the month of December.
There are too many family gatherings, parties a glass of wine after work, beers with mates, champagne to celebrate and yes all without even mentioning new years night!

But for some I know so far this is pretty normal right? Yes it's just surprising sometimes how easy it can be to slip into a habit of drinking more than you had firstly intended this is especially true when out with friends right?
I see it happening all the time and I often had to take people home because they got too drunk.

The recommended weekly allowance of 14 units a week is the equivalent of six medium glasses of wine or seven pints of beer.

Has you may know some were trying to "Go Sober for October" or basically giving up alcohol for a month or longer which for me was pretty easy I am not a alcoholic but it did go out the window during Steemfest lol.

Apparently if you dont drink for one full month it can lead to the long term drop in the feeling of that need for alcohol consumption.

But there are also some other benefits for example more money 79% participants said they saved more money after taking a month off from drinking so if you typically spend just $30 a week on a bottle or a night of beers with friends you'll save $1,560 in a year, if this was me I could afford my computer lol but for others it could be even enough for a dream holiday!

Weight loss is another there could be hidden calories in that glass of wine or cocktail that are actually significant.
There is apparently an average of over 300 calories in half a bottle of wine and its not just calories you need to be weary on because whilst drinking alcohol it reduces your metabolism.
Reducing your metabolism means your body will burns off the alcohol first taking priority over absorbing nutrients and burning that fat you dont want.
So if you cut the drinking and don't replace it with cake you will lose some weight.

If your a regular drinker it can disrupt your sleep, now I know what your thinking because I also thought the same you know that ol night bottle trick might help drift me off to sleep quicker..
Well you would be right it does help you fall asleep quicker (BUT!)

But there is downside to going about trying to go fall asleep this way as the night goes on you'll spend more time in a less restful state.
This one in particular consists of REM which stands for (Rapid Eye Movement) while you sleep and this my Steemians is whats making you feel strangely tired in the morning even after many hours of sleep.
So basically cutting out alcohol increases the time you'll spend in what they call a deep sleep.

Lastly better skin because there are the dehydrating effects from consuming alcohol it means your body can absorb more vitamin A increasing its cell turnover and keeping your skin looking healthier and younger.

I am not saying dont drink this December while I know personally of some who wont touch alcohol even during the festive season but atleast be mindful of not overly drinking during the "holidays" coming up.

Great article! As with everything else, if you are going to drink, do it in moderation. A drunk is a huge turn-off! And never, ever drink and drive. Thanks @simonjay for taking care of your friends when they were too drunk to drive. You may have saved their lives and the lives of others. Tip!

Thats the lesson here moderation no no no dont drink and drive its not just the driver but those other people on the road who have families, thank you very much @whatisnew I have reflected on that but at the time its just about getting them home safely. Thanks again for the tip it all really helps me and you.

I like to make my own cordial and mix up drinks, so every now and then, I'll have some alcohol, but I can't handle beer or wine. Usually, while everyone drinks, I'm just drinking water. When I'm too nervous, I feel unwell, so I avoid alcohol altogether. I don't personally drink more in December than I do at any other time of the year, but I do notice how everyone else drinks more.

I used to date an alcoholic and my husband understands the worries that him drinking more over the holidays may cause me, so he allows me to keep him in check by letting him know if I feel worried about his consumption or if it bothers me one day. This might seem a bit "controlling" to some people, but we've established this together, in such a way and with phrases where we are both comfortable and don't feel bad if I do end up telling him I'd rather he didn't drink that cider, or would prefer he drank less one night. Besides, he drinks very slowly, and not every day, and he tries to pace himself during the holidays so that he's not drinking every day. He drinks beer so a couple times a week is usually what he does. I will be pacing myself as well, since I've recently completed several batches of cordial and I don't want them going so quickly.

We'll both be helping each other stay on top of things, as we usually do.

It's important to be aware, since many people will be drinking more and prompt social drinking. But we don't need alcohol to be social. We need good topics of conversations, we need to dive deep and talk about what truly matters to us and what we're passionate about. Then people think I'm drunk when I'm not because I can truly be myself. That's my trick to not drinking so much, I guess :p

Its good to you know your limits, I am not a big drinker I mostly only drink at events I have had people like yourself not want to come out and use it has an excuse but I always tell them you are not expected to drink I would be glad if you come and just order a orange juice or water.
Well that is good if he allows it then your not being controlling so dont worry if others dont understand.
I am a slow drinker myself has I like to enjoy the taste of a drink I personally dont drink weekly sometimes I go a long time without any alcoholic drinks. Oh completely agree! we dont need alcohol to be social I often tell people this when they make up excuses about not having money to buy alcohol who cares its not whats important, thank you for sharing so much @binkyprod

My pleasure :)

I'm lucky I don't get drunk so I don't really drink much now days as there really no point other then wasting my money lol but I sometime have one or two when I socialising with friends

In some of the places I have been to @hotmangoes they charge so much for drinks its just silly so yes it can be a waste of money and I think having a drink with friends here and there isnt an issue haha until you have to take them home.

I decided to go "Sober for January" (1988) and in nearly 30 years I got married and raised a family, got a Masters degree and haven't slept under a single bridge.

Not slept under a single bridge love it Rich! and well done for all you achievements since not touching the bottle.

Thanks buddy... Most people can drink and not suffer too many bad side effects- I'm not one of those.
