In celery and onions are anti-cancer substances

New research shows that celery and cumin can help fight cancer.

Scientists from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), Institute of Organic Chemistry N.D. Zelinsky (RAS), the Institute of Developmental Biology (RAS) and the Russian Institute of Biophysics (RAS) have proposed an effective approach to new anti-cancer agents. These compounds are based on compounds derived from celery and fennel seeds.

Researcher Alexander Kiselev says they have developed a simple method of producing glaziovian A and its structural analogues, which inhibit the growth of tumor cells in people using inhibitors. It is feasible from nature and adds that the evaluation of these new substances in the experimentally validated use of valid sea urchins provides promises of selective influence of tubulin dynamics.

This new method is cheaper than existing methods because it includes common, cheap materials and also reduces the steps in synthesis and the list of related catalysts.

In addition, the team has synthesized several structural analogues with glaziovian A to find new antimitotic types.

The use of the sea urchin embryo as another invention is proposed by the team. The urchins' embryonic cells divide rapidly in the early stages of development, similar to the way the tumor grows. When antimitotic was introduced into the urchins, they began to spin, making it easy for the team to evaluate the effects of new drugs and their side effects.

These results are published in the Journal of Natural Products.
