Are Energy Drinks any Good? Do they Increase Your energy?? What amount Can you Drink ?? What they do to your body??
You all Must have had consumed Energy Drinks like Red Bull, Rockstar, Monster when you feel tired; when you feel like to boost your energy for the works,;to increase concentration in your studies When you have exams coming soon...isn't it??These energy drinks are used widely all over the world Mostly by the Sportsmen as well as by others when they feel the need for Boosting energy. You must have heard news about its good and bad effects of these around the Internet. Health organization like UK's National Health Service , FDA and WHO have already Stated the harms of using Energy drinks. In this post you will know everything you need to know about the Energy Drinks!!
What are these Energy Drinks made up of ?? How do they Work on our Body??

These are the main constituents that you will find in any energy Drinks.
1. Caffeine
( A- Adenosine, C - Caffeine)
Main Action of Caffeine is to block the adenosine receptors in the brain so that adenosine can't bind to its receptor. Normally , when electrical activity of neurons in brain is high, Adenosine binds to its receptor and decreases the activity and thus decreases excitation of the neurons. by blocking the adenosine receptor cafffeine makes brain to remain in exited state. Thats the reason you feel more alert and focused after energy drinks.
It also increases heart rate and blood pressure , Metabolic rate ad digestive process thus helps in utilizing the energy stored in body for various activities.
2. Taurine
It is Synthesized by our pancreas and synthetic form are also aavailable. It is an essential nutrient. function are
- improves cardiovascular functioning
- Improves function of retina
- Improves work endurance
3.Vitamins

In Spite of those Health benefits why energy Drinks are considered healthy??
caffeine - In normal dose and use it is beneficial but high dose and prolonged use can result in-
- Cardiac arrest,Hypertension,
- Insomnia, delirium, confusion, Anxiety and irritability,
- headaches and Migraines, tremors and seizures,
- Addiction,
vitamin B3 overdose
It can result in toxicity and person develops Diarrhoea , vomiting, non viral hepatitis
Taurine
Some reports of cardaic arrests, chest pain , abnormal heartbeat
Ginseng
High dose-rapid heartbeat, headache,fever and insomnia.
Then How much can you Drink it ??
It depends upon your upper limit for caffeine per day. In a normal healthy adult 300-400 mg of caffeine is beneficial. One cup of coffee conatins about 100 mg caffeine, and a 8 oz energy drink contains 80 mg.
According to the Caffeine calculator you can take-5 cans of 8 oz Red bulls or 2.5 cans of 16 oz monster.
But energy drinks not only contain caffeine but also high amount of sugars, taurine and other substances mentioned above And these all could affect our health .
According to Mayoclinic an healthy adult can take upto 3,000 mg of taurine per day. More than this will result in side effects. one can of 240 ml energy drink contains 1,000 mg taurine, so the upper limit of energy drinks per day comes down to about 240*3 i.e 720 ml .
These all are statistical values, these vary according to the body structure, metabolic rate, liver and kidney function, cardiovascular status of the individual. so do not take these as the reference for use of energy drinks.
Conclusion-
Sugars present in the energy drinks Are the main source of nutrient and energy , and vitamins are good for your health.but the large doses of Caffeine, taurine only make you feel that you have more energy but actually deplete the energy from our body and have many side effects. Small amount of Energy drinks occasionally are beneficial but large dose and regular use for prolonged time is not good for your health.

Hey man this is a really nicely written post! Covers everything you need to know about what's in energy drinks. I don't recommend them to clients, but occasionally I'll have one to get me through a big day.
I don't feel that I need them though, which is an important distinction as people can become addicted to energy drinks.
