Natural healing with spruce tips (part 1) - My Entry for @naturalmedicine 's Fortnightly Challenge
As a mum I know, that people have more often respiratory problems during childhood when we don't have jet a strong immune system. But rather bought medicine I prefer natural remedies like spruce tips syrup. Spruce spikes are a gift of nature that naturally treats us when we need it most - winter, cold weather and when we lack resistance. From them, you can prepare the healing syrup, tea, juice, as well as spirits and beer.
Last winter a dear friend of mine gave me a jar of syrup made of spruce tips. As you can see below, we used almost the whole amount.
Because spruce tips syrup can be enjoyed by both children and adults at our home, in the winter time, it is the main healer, and it is very popular. Cough and sore throat can be healed within three days. It also has a positive effect on the lungs, as it relieves breathing during colds. Healers also advise him to strengthen general resistance, to persevere fatigue, to cleanse the blood, and for bleeding gums.
For high-quality tips, you need enough sunshine. Therefore, we always wait for the harvest until the sun shines for a day or two so that the trees first dry up well. These tips contain enough essential oils and resins, which is a prerequisite for good and quality syrup.
So if you want to make one you will need:
- Spruce or pine peaks
- Sugar (white or brown) or honey
- Glass jar with a lid
Making of syrup from spruce peaks:
According to old recipes a thick layer of tips should be put into the bottom of the glass, then a layer of sugar, and then continue alternately to the top of the glass. Finish with a layer of sugar. The layers should be thick as a finger, only the first on the bottom should be thicker, as this prevents the hardening of the sugar at the bottom, and molding the tips below the top.
Place the glass on the window shelf in a sunny position. Leave it for 30-40 days and then take it in bottles and store it in a dark, cool place.
If instead of sugar we use honey, we do not place glasses in the sun to keep the healing ingredients in between. The glass should rest somewhere in a warm place, and if necessary, use the oven at a low temperature.
So now counting down begins. Only 35 days to go... 😊 I will keep you posted with the following procedure.
P.s. With this post, I would like to participate in @naturalmedicine 's Fortnightly challenge of Natural Remedies. Wish me all the best. 😉

Wow, that is really good tip, I knew that spruce tips are healthy but never thought about preparing syrup. It is an interesting to see how the syrup will look like in a month :)
It's really useful. I was skeptical before, but now I just have to have it in my pantry.

This looks like a great idea. I think I shall try with honey as I am not a big fan of sugar and honey in itself is a great medicine. Thanks for this wonderful natural medicine inspiration. Resteemed You should add #naturalmedicine as a tag for extra views and curated upvotes.
Thank you for such information. I am not a big fan of sugar, but I read that with spruce tips sugar is suggested, because it brings out more from them than the honey does. And the honey jars should be put in a proper place when on the other hand the ones with sugar in it should be placed on the sunny window shelf.

Thanks yes I will
I'm starting to think that there is something about old fashioned healing remidays, this is a great one.
After spraining my foot, a friend of mine from Iran told me to use egg and tarragon as a cream and it would heal and be pain free, it took 3 days and I was back at work.
Like he said after 12 hours with it on my foot I was painless unless I stood up and put weight on it, after 24 hours I could walk to the loo with no aids to help me.
after 2 days I was up and about it still hurt going upstairs but other than that nothing and on the 3rd day i went to work.
I couldn't believe it.
Nice post something that I am willing to try. :D
Yes, there is something about it for sure... About your experience - amazing... What did you do with tarragon - put the whole leaves, or did you chopped them? Used fresh, or did you use dried ones? Many questions, but you got me interested. 😊

I used dried tarragon mixed with raw egg, the egg is like using cream and the tarragon is for the injury.
These people in Iran are not used to our kind of medications they use homemade remedies for just about everything, he was telling me about what they use for headaches I just can't remember everything that he said, someone I know tried it and it worked just like the one he gave me for my injured foot.
When I tell him that I have been given cream or tablets for something he laughs and says, You pay money for something that you can cure for free, just with a few home grown ingredients.
And with everything that I know from learning his culture I get what he is saying.

This was a really good informative post about this natural remedy. I have never heard of this remedy and I will certainly give it a try. My mother has had lung cancer and though the cancer is gone, her lungs were damaged from all the chemo and radiation treatment and she has breathing issues. I will make her a batch of this and see if helps, it certainly can't hurt, being all natural. I'll also look at the link you provided to see additional tips about how to use this. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to explain the methods.
Your welcome. I am happy to read, that your mother defeated cancer. I am pretty sure this syrup can't do her harm. I think if you will find some more links about the benefits of it, and I believe you will have enough information on how to relieve your mothers breathing. Keep me informed if it will help. I am sending my best wishes to you and your mother.

Thanks for your well wishes for Mom. I'll let you know after we have a batch made and she gives it a try. I wish I had a batch ready right now, I've come down with a summer cold and have some chest congestion that I'd have been happy to try it out on.

What a wonderful post - simple and effective. You might like to read our editorial from a few weeks ago on oxymels, which are similiar to this but use honey instead. Resteemed!! This post deserves the attention it is getting - a great post to fly the #naturalmedicine tag and a great contest entry too.

That's a good tip, but I am curious about the sugar part. Excess of sugar, will it be safe in other ways for the body.
