Five Habits To Have A Highly Effective Brain
What we do dictates the health of our body, and the capability of our mind as well.
Having a brain that functions well and works at its best condition does not require complicated efforts. In fact, it only entails basic exertion and determined participation from us.
If you are really eager to keep that brain of yours healthy and effective, it’s better if you consider the following habits:
- INCLUDE EXERCISE IN YOUR CALENDAR
You can never deny the various benefits of getting our body engaged in different physical activities like exercise or sports. As these kinds of undertakings shape our physiques to become physically fit, these also mold our brain to becoming sharp and sound.
Doing some medium and rigorous physical activities like walking, running, playing basketball, volleyball or football, or involving ourselves into endurance and weight trainings paves a way for our system to boost the production of a substance that aids our brain in stimulating growth of our neurons. A well-developed neural cells mean better learning, remembering, and critical or analytical thinking. Continuing this habit also keeps old neurons keen and alive.
So, instead of sitting there, watching televisions or pondering onto something irrelevant, why not put yourself on the track for a 30-min run or walk. Better if you have company to join with this habit. You’ll be motivated if you have someone to jog with. There will be somebody to keep pushing you for an extra mile, which is good for your brain.
If you are too busy for the weekdays because of your job, you have the whole weekend to execute this habit. What is 30 minutes of walk or jog a week for you if your mind-being will be in good shape?
So, create a schedule for a run and commit to it.
- COMMITMENT TO ENOUGH SLEEP
As our body gets tired of laborious tasks, our brain feels the same way after so much mind-boggling errands. The tendency of our system if we continue working with our worn-out body and brain is to produce a senseless result.
We would not achieve our desired ends if we persist on grinding ourselves to finish our tasks.
The reason is that our brain does not function well if it is already drained, just like our body. We lose our focus and concentration in our works. Finesse will not be seen even in simple things we do.
It also affects the way we remember things. Like the spot where we placed the paper we were working last week; or where we put our cellular phones a while ago if we have totally battered brain.
Worst is that if we continue doing our bad habits of finishing things with our fatigued brain, it may lead to undesirable illness.
Therefore, always remember, our brain also needs a rest, a time to recover its energy. To do that, a sound sleep is a must.
Make sure you have enough hours of sleep or else, you may not accomplish the things you have to in utmost efficacy.
- NEVER EMBRACE IDLENESS.
Never let your neurons stagnate, or reach their extinction. Always keep them working, even in a simple thing. This will help your brain stay sharp and effective.
Always be motivated to do something. Your drive in doing simple chores can create strong neural connections which give you an advantage in remembering usual events.
Try to learn new skill. Keep your mind active. Try to learn how to create a computer programs or software. It wouldn’t be easy but this will provide challenges for yourself. How about writing a novel? This will really keep your mind busy.
You may also try playing mind games or board games like chess. You may include Sudoku in your lists. Try to solve math or physics problems. Learn new language.
Drill it in mind that doing those challenges requires positive thoughts. If you infuse negative contemplation like “I can’t do it,” this will really affect the health of your brain. So, stop tinkering negativity within in you if your goal is to have a highly effective brain.
- CHILL, DON’T STRESS OUT.
Though, keeping your mind busy and active is a must in order to have a keen brain, minimizing stress must also be considered.
Everyone understands that you have busy schedules. So many deadlines and appointments. Projects to be passed to your professors. Rehearsals to execute. Paperwork to be accomplished within a day. But, don’t not stress out your mind.
The key here is to, as much as possible, avoid multitasking. This will, on the other way around, reduce your mind capacity. It also hasten the supremacy of fatigue in your brain.
If you want to have an efficient brain, focus on one thing. When you done about it, do the next one. Deadline is always be a deadline. But everything will be done. Take it easy. Keep your concentration to the most important or urgent one. Or do the easiest first. Gradually, you will not notice that you have accomplished many tasks.
Productivity does not mean doing a lot of works in the same time. It’s how much have you completed within a given period of time.
Don’t let the stress reign in you. Otherwise, your mind would not function the way you’ll like it to work. You’ll get frustrated. The best thing is, pause first. Breathe. Calm yourself. Sort your chores based on urgency. Do the most urgent first.
Well, after a whole tiring day, you deserve a reward. Unwind. Watch something funny. Laugh. It may help your brain to be at ease.
Try to meditate too. This will clear your mind and help you focus on the next day.
If your boss permits it, why don’t you go for a vacation. Travel to the place where sands and oceans meet while enjoying the sea breeze. Lie down your back while sipping a refreshing coconut juice!
Give yourself a time to relax is providing a chance for your brain to get rid of nasty jobs.
- CONSTRUCT A BRAIN DIET.
We always hear the saying, “What we eat is who we are.” The same thing with our brain. The nutrition we intake affects our brain. So, be careful what you eat or drink.
The first thing to minimize is alcohol. Too much of this substance may initiate neural degeneration. Worst, it will kill them. It’s good to have a minimal amount but not that too much. As the liquor ads say, “Drink moderately.”
Also, minimize sugar consumption. Too much sugar prompts inflammation, oxidative stress and poor insulin regulation.
What you must include in your diet are foods that rich in antioxidants. Foodstuffs that are rich with this substance help you to have better cognitive performance. These include foods like carrots, spinach and red grapes. Instead of drinking beer, try to drink green tea, red wine and coffee.
