The importance of sleep

Your body needs an adequate amount of sleep! However, the saying “you snooze, you lose” always gave me the feeling that staying up that extra hour to get some work or studying done was the sign of having a good work ethic. Of course, there is nothing wrong with working hard, but I have found that getting the hours of sleep that your body needs does wonders for you.

“You snooze, you win” is a more apt phrase. An adequate amount of sleep will allow your body to recover properly from exercise or a long day at work. It also allows your brain to sweep itself clean of toxins. Cutting short on this may lead to brain fog as pointed out in this article.

Mark McCormack, founder of IMG and during his life one of the wealthiest men in the US, was known to take afternoon snoozes in his office. It helps when you are the boss in being able to take a nap at work, but going to bed early if at all possible is highly recommended.

Additionally, it has been shown that staring at a laptop, tablet or smartphone screen just before bed is not to be recommended. These screens emit a certain type of blue light that makes you more alert and suppresses your melatonin levels. As a result, your quality of sleep will be impacted.

In conclusion, forego the TV, tablet or any other screen before bed. And try to go to bed early. You will be rewarded with a more alert body the next day!

Please let me know if it helps you. I'd love to hear from you!

hi @alexgeorge

Sleep is very important and I am one who really likes to sleep. I think the body and the brain develop more when we sleep and sleep on a comfortable bed. It's much better than sleeping on the floor and I do not know if 8 hours of sleep is enough but I know you have to sleep. That in the sleep there are also dreams and they are really everything we thought in the day we dream at night so I wish everyone a pleasant sleep and pleasant dreams and thanks a lot for this post

Hi @ravivshachr

Thanks so much for your enlightened comment! I experience dreams once I am fully rested and am sleeping well. I believe that dreams are important to have at least once in a while! In any case, the delevopment of the brain is enhanced through more rest :-)

@alexgeorge The blue light emitted from smart phones also keeps you awake. That;s why their is a new thing called night mode on iphones to make yellow light be emitted. And products like gunnar optics to filter the light and make it yellow in an effort to reduce eye strain and to let you get tired.

Hi @kmaxkmax

You are right! Night mode on a smart phone is a very useful function and I hope that everybody is aware of it. I suspect some people don't know this yet, so thanks for the comment!

You are very welcome! I just hated all the eye fatigue I would get with late nights on the computer. Then I picked up a pair of those glasses. I sleep earlier but my eyes don't hurt at all anymore.

Yes, I agree with you. Good sleep is very important for everyone.
