HappyChallenge: Meeting the people of Paamiut in Greenland!

I am not a scientist or a member of Green Pace Organization but today i step for the first time in Greenland. It was an amazing felling specially i never been here before and i know how difficult actually it is to manage reaching this place. Because of that i will add from the beginning a photo with me so i can cancel any doubt about my presence here.20170725_180147.jpg
I know what you might think now... Hey dude you want to tell us about happiness and you look so serious! Well its all about the weather, only 4°C (Celsius) so it was really cold and the wind combine with drizzle was making the situation ever harder.
The place that i visit is Paamiut formerly known as Frederikshåb, a small town in southwestern Greenland which is a very wild area, most probably the wildest that i sow in all my travels.

Sometimes a photo is worth more then one thousand words so i add few photos that i took with my mobile phone. Not even one tree as far as you can see with the open eye!
Honest to be in such environment i am very surprise to see that a town actually exists. The locals are incredibly welcoming and are quick to make friends. Since the town is so small i believe that everybody knows everybody so they can spot a tourist right away.
I spoke with few of them and learn a bit about the history of the place and about the lifestyle that they have and i have to admit that they talk with a lot of passion about the place and are really proud about the little town. They told me that the best way to understand more about the town and the way people are living here is to visit the church and the "turf-house".
All the buildings are very close one to another so i said why not...

The locals are very proud about the church. It was been build in 1909 from wood in the Norwegian style and it is ranked the finest church in Greenland. What really surprise me was the ship. Yes it is inside the church and it is hanging in the middle of it the same like a chandelier will. I have entered in a lot of churches around the world but it is the first time i see a ship hanging in the middle of it.

The "turf-house" its a really tiny house with an extremely tiny entrance. It was really dark inside so the photos that i took were not that good but it is a place no bigger then 2X2 meters with a very small bed and a heating system. The turf-houses are done so small so during the winter time when it is extremely cold they will preserve the heat better. It's not even a house its basically a small room and sometimes even 10 people will stay in one of them.
Well the locals were right! Visiting the church and the "turf-house" i did learn a lot about them and a lot about the way they are living... a very simple happy life!

I stay looking at the fisherman's coming and going with their small boats and i was thinking in the same time about the people of this place about how proud they are about their little town and how happy they are about their lives.
A simple life where shelter, water and food means happiness!
Where community means happiness!
I reflect little bit about myself while i smoke few cigarettes, about my life and about my journey in life so far. I left the little "harbor" with a smile on my face. At the end of the day everything happens for a reason!
I reach Greenland not to see the wild side of it but to meet the human side of it!

Hmm.. seems like a good place to retire, besides the cold .. at least the people are welcoming! When were the pictures taken ?

The photos i took yesterday when i visit the place. Since you mention about the weather keep in mind that now its the summer time there and it is how it is... don't want to imagine how is during the winter time. The people are amazing and that's actually the beauty of the place!

Wow, I would love to go to Greenland, and have a job like yours :) you get to see all these lovely places and get paid, I'm sure you have to work hard too but it's worth when you get to go to Greenland.
Great post

Thanks a lot for the visit bro. Yes have to admit it is worth it to have my job specially if you reach these places but the big minus is that i am far away from my family for long periods of time! I hope one day you will manage to see as well Greenland as people are amazing there!

Thats a really cool little town. Those buildings look wild. Almost like models. I think it's the colors. Very cool

You are right the buildings look like models specially in the photo that i took from the top of the hill and i am glad you notice. A little town with an amazing community!

Great blog like always and really great story bro. It's really comforting to see that there are still places in the world where having a simple life among friends and being part of a helping community is actually the path to happiness. Forget about these dollar-green gold-plated fantasies, let's just re-learn how to be human again. Wish I could visit places like the ones you just visited. Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the kind words bro, they really mean a lot to me. I hope from the bottom of my heart that you can visit one day some of the places that i visit... i really do. It feels amazing to see this kind of communities i totally agree. We are running in our journey in life so many times after so many unimportant things and we forget most of the times the most important thing... to be humans! To enjoy life without been so concern about financial statuses or running after fortunes. At the end we don't take nothing with us!

thanks for sharing this happy little post with us :)
always interesting to see how other people live :)

Thanks a lot for the visit and the comment. I am really glad you enjoy the blog! Talking about people i notice that your husband did not post nothing for a very long time. Is everything going good with him? I really hope he is doing fine and he is just busy with some other projects!

Yes he has been very busy haha... he is one of the core developers of a coin that recently launched called @smartcash so he is sleeping very little and always at the computer...
I hope he will have the time to get back on Steemit and start posting a little more :) I will let him know you noticed his absence :)

I am glad to hear he is doing good. Busy is very good sometimes... i will take a look when i will have time at this new altcoin. Please send my regards to him!

It seems like a nice place to relax with your friends & family. I prefer cold destinations to be honest :D

Well it was very cold now and it's like summer time there so i don't want to imagine how it is when it's winter... but if you prefer cold destinations then the place might fit you. The community there is amazing, living by simple but healthy ways (from all points of view) so it's a great place to relax with family and friends!

Beautiful place! in what country do you made this pictures ?

As i mention few times in the blog, even in the title the photos i took them in Greenland! I am really glad you like the area but the story was not really about it...

lol don't worry it can happen. Honest to be before going there i thought it is a continent!
