Gridcoin is getting to be a large enough community that the crowd is begging for more Hangouts, Classrooms, etc. In the interest of fielding the community desire, we have decided to expand the Gridcoin podcast-verse into new and wonderful possibilities.

Presenting - The Gridcoin University!

Soon, there will be Hangouts & Classrooms for various spoken languages, as well as personal lessons from some of the lead developers of the coin! :D

@zipity has expressed interest in leading a French language Hangout.
@tomasbrod agreed to do a short rundown of the wallet for C++ developers wanting to contribute.
@Nethlek explained they would be down for teaching the German language to interested individuals.
@jringo hosts The Fireside chats every Thursday in the Quad.

I host the original Gridcoin Community Hangouts after taking over for @cm-steem (big ups), and started the Classrooms as a way to teach people about cryptocurrency. I've since realized my limitations, as well as the amazing pool of talent that we have in our community, so expanding the Classrooms to be taught by anybody seemed to be the wisest option.

I'm very excited about the future of our University. It is volunteer-based (for now, at least), but I could be swayed to throw these folks some Gridcoin for stepping up to the challenge. ;)

Do you feel like teaching a Classroom in Japanese? Hosting a Swedish Hangout?

Leave a message on this thread, or hit me up in the Gridcoin Discord: https://discord.me/gridcoin and I'll do anything I can to help community members produce their own quality content.

Thanks for reading, and follow me for more Gridcoin-related updates!

Sweet, testnet gets its own room! I just hope there's no windows because our folks love breaking things ;)

would you be down with doing like a "testnet rundown" thing or something? like a half hour telling people what you're looking for in particular right now... things you've noticed, etc. :)

i'm not forcing you to produce it with me. lol.

I already gave a "Getting Started on Testnet" talk on the Fireside, but I would not be opposed to giving another such talk on a different podcast. My concern would be to not repeat the same information over and over on multiple channels/podcasts. We can work out the details though.

i meant as like a weekly thing. :)

"the testnet half hour with barton" or something.

Oh, hmm. To be honest I'm not sure I would have that much to talk about on a weekly basis. Perhaps every two weeks or once a month?

i modelled it around my old visual performing arts school campus a bit... testnet is where the musical instrument repair shop would be. lol

So is everyone invited and allowed to join? 3 weeks ago I was trying to switch my spare machines that had wallets spun up from back months ago when we were asked to spin up as many windows nodes as possible due to the 6+ day superblock issue similar to again what happened last month just a few weeks ago. But due to the wiki entry caused issues. I saw you must join slack , but apparently my user was banned when I was banned from freenode as lastpass does not change usernames/passwords randomly on people and it says user does not exist and I cannot seem to get an invite... So is this 100% teamwork or is there going to be the same favoritism and personal feelings controlling things and not just a testnet " community" ? Might wanna add a testnet channel to discord.. Maybe even a slack relay/bridge or what ever..

Currently we require that testnet users participate in either the testnet channel on Slack or on Rocket Chat. These two platforms are bridged to one another. We previously had a testnet channel on Discord but it is too difficult for me to manage 3 channels at once (please understand that it's hard enough coordinating 2 platforms currently).

I also noticed you were running your nodes a few weeks ago without an org flag set in your config. Note that this is a requirement for testnet participation as outlined on the wiki.

i would totally be down for you making your own hangout. you're even a little braver/harsher than me. i think it's important that we reflect all the levels of our community. :)

I think I could contribute in some way. I can blog and write. Croatian and Serbain community stuff also.

good to hear! thanks for considering contributing. :)

It's a little weird too that we went from weekly hangouts with pay for attending to bi-weekly due to peoples schedules and being global and not everybody being on PST let alone in the USA , such as Australia.
So will this fix the teamwork issues and how we do not function as a team yet still along with the infighting and cliques only instead of just the GRC8 we have sub cliques now. Like the slack clique , the discord cliques and the irc cliques and etc the list goes on. Does this fix how people let their personal feelings dictate allowing others to participate let alone facilitate and contribute?

" I've since realized my limitations, as well as the amazing pool of talent that we have in our community " that is an interesting quote because there has been a pool of talent but it constantly gets shit on due to our forced trusted community leaders , such as yourself and people get pushed away and turned off of the idea of helping let alone contributing their talents , I know personally and first handedly seeing as this has happened to me and I have seen it happen to others. I see this as another way for peoples ideas to get stolen and taken away from them , just like the hangout let alone steemit and CCT.

Maybe this might fix people working together on projects vs wanting to be the center of the Gridcoin world but I really see this making things worse and people feeling more left out and unwanted only instead of 1 big community unwanted in the sub-communities.

I've never seen/had such negative experiences. I guess I'd need specific examples before believing anything you're saying..

the hangouts are weekly again! and i've been paying anybody that asks (fkinglag was as well). i've even remembered to offer a couple of times. lol. so many new things lately... hard to keep track.

I’ll teach Japanese or Chinese for Gridcoin!
