It's advisable to stay generally on topic, attendees are distributed around the world so they may not (likely won't) share the same views regarding controversial topics not related to Gridcoin/BOINC/computers/cryptocurrency.
What is Gridcoin?
Gridcoin securely rewards BOINC computation on top of Proof of Stake. Reward allocation is distributed, not centralized unlike other distributed computing related cryptocurrencies.

Why are we holding these hangouts?
- A mumble conference call can provide significant advantages over communicating via text.
- To create opportunities to inform the public of new Gridcoin, BOINC, and related services & their development progress.
- To bridge relations between the cryptocurrency & BOINC communities, and our users.
- To be transparent in our actions.

for future hangouts, i HAVE figured out self-hosting an nginx rtmp server! so we will be streaming to many places at once. going to contact @geebell today about streaming to facebook live as well.
...now we don't have to worry about trapping people into Gridcoin with "tits and ass". ;)

Discord, nah!!
There's way more people willing to participate in discord because it more simple then Mumble. Ultimately it's better to reach more people. Dismissing it just because it's discord is silly.
I disagree. Mumble is more simple. It is literally nothing than talk app.
for one: the certificate generation throws a lot of people off. even jringo couldn't change his nickname for like 2 months. lol
for two: i prefer the sound quality in Mumble, but there are simply more people coming to the Discord hangouts. even excluding sock puppets. ;)
for three: Discord IS more system exhaustive. i've proposed a bridge between the two, and @tomasbrod even accomplished it for one classroom, and the result was basically piping in a bunch of abuse from the Mumble. that shit can't happen again. you know who you are.
the medium is NOT the message. it's about getting our message to more people at once. let's all get over our hangups, and figure out how to make this work for everybody that isn't the regulars/hosts. <3
