My return to Gridcoin

in #gridcoin7 years ago (edited)

As a relative noob in the crypto scene, I discovered Gridcoin recently. I was starting to get really interested as I'm a huge BOINC fan. I really enjoy the search for alien signals. Getting some cryptocurrency for the effort seemed like a good idea. Even if it would not be profitable.

At first I joined some Twitch streams by @peppernrino and watched some YT tutorials. I also read many of available online materials. I was (and still am) confused about many things and hope to get more answers in the future.

At a point some sort of forking issues happened with GRC and that demotivated me for some time. I got motivated again when I red an article about how BOINC is suffering due to all the PoW mining going on. So, I'M BACK :-) and I'll start to document my activities here.

My current activities:

  1. Re-joined the Gridcoin Discord
  2. Started to relearn everything I can about the GRC system
  3. Motivated a Discord buddy (@crimsun) to get involved so we can build knowledge resources together. Things are easier in a team. Even a virtual one.
  4. Installed BOINC on my phone (ZTE Q Blade Maxi) just to see how it runs on it (yeah, it runs really slow) as I hate CPU cycles being wasted in any form when they could be used to find extraterrestrial life forms and get some GRC in the future

Future plans:

  1. Instal BOINC on my main PC (i3 3220 / Radeon HD 6800) and setup the Gridcoin pool crunching. Probably during the next weekend.
  2. If it goes well, dig out my old Celeron 2.8 Ghz PC and get BOINC on it also
  3. Start staking GRC (maybe on a RasPi)
  4. Continue to learn and research about Gridcoin
  5. Join some Gridcoin community initiative or project as contributor
  6. Write the follow up posts with my experiences
  7. Explore other science research related coins. We definitely need better cryptocurrency tools for science funding.

Any Gridcoin donation would be appreciated at this point: SH6XxQ9sX2mXHeUR5q9CpJsCVg3DFPTwxn

Let me know if you have any Gridcoin related tips&tricks or resources I could research.

Thanks ;-) see you soon...

Sidenote: this is post is part of my effort to publish one Steemit post per day. Soon I'll write the obligatory introduction post. just need to keep the momentum going and build up the routine.

Have a nice day. :)

Welcome back. I stake on a Raspberry Pi and also do BOINC on it, as well as my mobile phones, tablets and computers.

hey @scalextrix in your experience, what is the ROI when you do BOINC on a RasPi?

I never tracked it myself, and because I have a whole bunch of kit on the same account its hard to separate. There have been some peeps on steemit doing calculations and its generally been positive.

I support you!
I think you done the best that could be, regarding the forking period. Let it rest while it does not work, but come back when it does again.

Welcome back to the community, we are as lively as ever before! I hope you can find some projects to work on, there are always people innovating in this community and they need as much help as they can get.
