@sc-steemit maintains a hell of a site for information regarding past and ongoing polls, along with other goodies. Give it a look and post your own analysis in the comments!

A resounding approval

Best Answer: Approve
Approve: 186 -- 98.5%
Deny: 13 -- 1.5%
Voting Shares: 73 307 443 (15.87%)

Breakdown

198 people voted. That is the most of any Gridcoin poll to date.
15.87% shares accounted for. With the highest whale holding 19.8 million Gridcoin (it is an investor, so no mag). Second highest whale has 8.6 million "shares" or "weight". Shares are calculated by:

((Total coins)/115000/5.67)*(Magnitude) + Balance

In other words, if you BOINC, your weight is determined by your Magnitude and your Client's GRC Balance. If you don't BOINC, your weight is your client's GRC balance.

Total coins is currently ~390mil

If you look through past polls on Gridcoinstats (which I highly recommend, if only for some fun) you will see that we reached this volume of shares, which is relatively high, without the help of several major whales. When I say whales, I mean investors holding in some cases over 30 million GRC. That's about %6+ of the Network's total weight. The developer reimbursement 6 month package is the highest share percentage that I can find that does not include those gigantic whales.

Analysis

This reinforces everything we already know: The Gridcoin Community is growing. We are building something we think is worth building, and other people, it would seem, tend to agree.

Now that the developers are compensated for the time and passion they put into this project, expect enthusiasm to pick up in the coming months (beginning with the v xx.8 mandatory update for windows users), but do not expect the pace of development to skyrocket. As I touched on in my post discussing the proposal overall, Gridcoin is aching for a team to care for it, a team to love it, a team to understand it and its needs inside and out. Our current crew is just that team, but you can't go rushing into a long term relationship all willy-nilly =).

The Team

If you feel so inclined, hop into IRC or Slack or whatever and give some love to the dev team and volunteer guinea pigs. There are many who have contributed and continue to contribute to the project. I have tried to compile a list of those who have been working their asses off this past month developing and testing Gridcoin in the #development channel on slack. I know I've probably missed some people, and I'm sorry = (. Also, devs, if you have a steemit name other than what you use on slack let me know and I'll change it on this post.

Developers:

Rob, of course.

@ifoggz
@bullshark
@brod

Testers:

@quezacoatl
@barton26
@sc-steemit (startail)
@dutch
@gunde
@caraka

I'm thankful that this passed. We have to support our devs. Period. This is the support they need. I am excited for the future gridcoin.

We may want to start compensating the marketers too, or at least creating good bounties for them. I sent some grc to josh for his work... is he being paid fairly?

Right now Josh is working by donation. In general, I'd be in favor of marketing bounties and saving foundation funds for back-end development, at least for now. That said, I'd also be in favor of supporting Josh with foundation funds.

For those who are not familiar with @joshoeah's work, check out his branding update and know that he does more work than what is in there. An address for donating to support his caffeine addiction is at the bottom of the post if you're feeling generous.

It's also important to note that we've agreed to a $100,000 maximum disbursement limit (based on the mid-point pricing); at which point Rob will come back to the community to report on expenditures and as for a reauthorization.

Great post and thanks for mentioning me 👍

This is exactly what I hoped the site should be used for when I started it, making conversation with backed facts that can be shared. 💖

Great news! Of course, we knew this was going to pass from the get go with a resounding 90% approval rate for practically the entire poll duration. =)

As an aside, client version 3.5.9.8 is not a mandatory. Any real mandatory will be announced far in advance as it also requires the exchanges to be notified 2 weeks before the upgrade.

There's also the development of the Gridcoin website.

Due to your lengthy response and the time you took to explain to me the concept of Gridcoin, and for this nice article I will Resteem and vote up. I never would have known about Gridcoin had it not been for you jringo. Also now following your blog. Cheers Mate.

Cheers. There's a lot of great content contributors in the community so keep an eye out for them too! Anyway, welcome to the family. Ask around with any questions that come up = ).

link is broken. It should be https://steemit.com/created/gridcoin

Does the poll count as I've heard that foundation polls must have 20% voting shares to pass?

There is no lowest voting percentage rule set today.

There was a poll trying to set one, but it didn't reach more than 1.3% of the voting shares itself, making it practically void.

Meta Poll : What Is The Minimum Vote Weight That Should Be Required For Mandate Behind A Poll To Be Valid?

I would say that a voting share of almost 16% is very good on the network.

see poll in February:

  • the most voted answer was: "yes, 20% minimum vote weight required" (with 27.8% of the voter shares)
  • aggregated: 20% or more vote weight wanted by 56.85% of voter shares

aggregated details:

  • 50% or more wanted by 1.6% voter shares
  • 25% or more 29.07%
  • 20% or more 56.85%
  • 15% or more 62.49%
  • 10% or more 83.86%
  • 5% or more 94.44%
