Giveaway, Joining Forces, Gridcoin for Android (full wallet)
Short Info: This is not a thread of giving free crypto, rather an opening discussion on how we can build something great with the resources currently not in use. (For anything other then crunching).
Since I actively involved participating in GridCoin community all around, I decided to help a bit with personal spare resources currently not in use.
I have High-End bare-metal servers at multiple locations. (Around 24x PowerEdges, 4 sockets, 240GB each) with redundant gigabit uplinks. Current utilization is bellow 5% of overall network infrastructure, meaning the rest could be used for scientific projects.
Post your idea of how you could help GridCoin community with these resources, and the amount of resources you need, and I would be happy to allocate bare-metal or ESXI depending on needs.
Some examples:
- Host a new GRC pool
- Create your own Boinc Fork
- Experiment with resources and algorithms that requires heavy processing power.
- You name it...
Write a short description on how you would use it, and what benefit it could make, I will collect all the Ideas and put them for a public discussion.
Code of Conduct
- No projects for personal gain, unless it benefits the GridCoin community
- Everything you do should be transparent and ready for open discussion within the community.
- Community opinion matters.
In the mean time, i will be focusing on creating a full GridCoin Wallet for Android, so if there are developers interested to help with this, I would appreciate that we get in touch.
If you can't reach me here, drop me a DM on Twitter https://twitter.com/cs_networks
Let's start the discussion, i am looking forward to help with this project as much as possible.
Hey crt, might be interested in helping out a bit with your Android project. That would be cool to have. I've done some Android dev before some might have some of the right skills :)
hey fooforever, great! Shall we start with github fork from one of the bitcoin wallets? What do you suggest. My idea is that we setup functional transactions / balances at first. But looking forward for your opinions on how to approach.
I guess that would be a good starting place but I'm not to familiar with what it would take to turn that into a gridcoin wallet. We are already listen on Coinomi, are you hoping to get further than what they can do?
The problem is Coinomi is not opensource anymore. My idea was to create decentralized open-source wallet. Since they closed the source, we have no idea what they do under the hood. Let me try to fork some native bitcoin wallet and then examine the code of QtResearchWallet. I think that would be a good starting point for a total newbie like me :) I'll share the github as soon as i manage to get something that at least sync with the network.
Cool, I'd be happy to help before then if you want, I have looked around the wallet before. There's even a few commits with my name on them, but they're UI really :)
Even better! If you have starting point, please fork it and share url. I'll clone it immediately and we can start working on it. Probably others are going to get involved too. I think we really need mobile wallet as soonest to engage more people into GRC. :)
Let's go https://github.com/stefancertic/GridCoin-Android-Wallet
I suggest a light wallet only. Full wallet currently requires a lot of ram for the memoryblockdiskindex.
If you want to utilize those servers, aside from crunching boinc, we (developers) could use a few full nodes and testnet nodes. Come to slack, and we will help you set up the development testnet node of.
Also hosting the client and blockchain snapshot downloads would be helpful. The server, it is on, is throttling the downloads.
Fully agree. I started with very limited version with balance / transactions only. Still trying to figure all the mumbo-jumbo dance out of linux source :)
Will definitely get on slack to discuss what specification is needed.
By the way, i just joined slack. What's the official group right now? I can see teamgridcoin throws invalid certificate. Some other?
are you still unable to get in?
Will try now, in the mean time, I have setup node, test node and blockchain snapshot downloads, check in this tread (test node is currently synching) https://steemit.com/gridcoin/@crt/gridcoin-full-node-blockchain-snapshot-downloads
As for the slack, unfortunately not, check out:

I'm in. Thank you very much.
very good job interesting information
