Gridcoin Community Hangout #013

A massive shout out to the BeyondBitcoin community & @officialfuzzy for providing the Gridcoin community a room in their mumble server for free.

Another massive thanks to @peppernrino for editing the hangout recordings, without him the released hangout recordings would be slow and of poor quality.

What is Gridcoin?

Gridcoin securely rewards BOINC computation on top of Proof of Stake. Reward allocation is distributed, not centralized unlike other distributed computing related cryptocurrencies.

Why are we holding these hangouts?

  • A mumble conference call can provide significant advantages over communicating via forums and IRC.
  • To create opportunities to inform the public of new Gridcoin, BOINC and related services & their development progress.
  • To bridge relations between the cryptocurrency & BOINC communities.

How long will the hangout last?

If there are not many topics suggested then hangouts won't last longer than an hour, on the other hand if there are many topic suggested then the hangout may last 2-3 hours!

When the Gridcoin Community Hangouts start really picking up traction we can become more strict with allocated speaking time if need be (so you're not waiting hours to talk).

Want to suggest a topic to discuss?

Reply with your suggestions in this Steem post & order of discussion will be from highest to lowest voted suggestions.

Can we discuss anything?

It's advisable to stay generally on topic, attendees are distributed around the world so they may not (likely won't) share the same views regarding controversial topics not related to Gridcoin/BOINC/Cryptocurrency.

That said, this 'on topic' guideline fizzles away once official recording has ended & the hangout becomes a more relaxed environment.

How are this post's rewards distributed?

50% of author rewards are liquid SBD, we may distribute these liquid SBD funds to attendees/speakers in the near future - we need to discuss this as a community. If you wish to receive steem rewards then you need to post to this thread your intent to attend. (Failure to post will potentially lead to reward delay).

We will also be distributing GRC onto attendees/speakers in the future, if you plan on attending, RSVP and provide your GR C address, otherwise payments may be delayed/skipped!

CM, can you check the traffic logs for the Gridcoin site for any traffic/search spikes during, before and after the Grc Thunderclap campaign? Maybe we could plan another one soon.

If you go onto the Gridcoin slack, in the marketing/advertising channel there's a statsbot that provides anyone the ability to query the gridcoin.us analytics. AFAIK there was not a significant impact by the thunderclap, the lack of graphic perhaps didn't catch people's eyes, but at the same time twitter only really has a <1% click through rate..

I think running a few gleam.io competitions to increase our social media presence would be far more advantageous than repeating the thunderclap campaign.

What's the range of dates you want me to check?

Presently running a windows testnet wallet and it's a fascinating experience 'cause I do like to break things.
I'm on IRC if anyone needs a hand or wants to give it a go.

https://steemit.com/gridcoin/@cm-steem/brainstorming-new-boinc-projects

New BOINC project brainstorming thread is live on steem, please upvote and contribute new ideas! :)

VTGU and SRBase have been added to the whitelist! Each project has less than 30 users, this means that you can potentially get a large mag easily!

Poem@Home has been removed from the whitelist! Remove this project from your BOINC client ASAP!

There has been some developments regarding the Gridcoin MPA - there is a BTS BSIP created by the user 'PC' which will hopefully allow for the recovery of a 'BlackSwanned' MPA.
