Gridcoin Community Hangout #004

A massive shout out to the BeyondBitcoin community & @officialfuzzy for providing the Gridcoin community a room in their mumble server for free.

Thanks to @peppernrino for editing the hangout recordings, much appreciated! :)

What is Gridcoin?

Gridcoin securely rewards BOINC computation on top of Proof of Stake. Reward allocation is distributed, not centralized unlike other distributed computing related cryptocurrencies.

Why are we holding these hangouts?

  • A mumble conference call can provide significant advantages over communicating via forums and IRC.
  • To create opportunities to inform the public of new Gridcoin, BOINC and related services & their development progress.
  • To bridge relations between the cryptocurrency & BOINC communities.

How long will the hangout last?

The average recording time for these hangouts is between 2.5 - 3 hours!

Want to suggest a topic to discuss?

Reply with your suggestions in this Steem post & order of discussion will be from highest to lowest voted suggestions.

Can we discuss anything?

It's advisable to stay generally on topic, attendees are distributed around the world so they may not (likely won't) share the same views regarding controversial topics not related to Gridcoin/BOINC/Cryptocurrency.

Topic Suggestion:

The need for the community to develop a "Gridcoin Market Value Team".

This team would be comprised of volunteers and have the goal of raising the market value of Gridcoin.

The topic would be recruitment and organization of such a team.

In the future, after a team has been put together, we can suggest possible objectives for them to work on with the end goal in mind.

Check my blog for posts brainstorming the concept (note that I have been conceiving this as the "Gridcoin Finance Team", which has caused some confusion, and for the time being will instead be called the "Gridcoin Market Value Team")

I hope to be there for Hangout #4

Just to be clear, you're not proposing a 'pump' group, right?

No, the goal is to create long term value for the coin. The best way to do that is to create utility for the coin; we need to find institutions that will accept GRC as currency, as an example of that.

But I expect we will run into folks proposing or trying to start a pump and dump. I don't know how to counter that.
