MISSION TRIP TO HONDURAS - AMAZING MAYAN RUINS AT COPAN

We took 54 of the WWH2H kids to the Copan ruins. There are over 100 kids at the orphanage so the cutoff age for the trip was 15 years old. So the older kids traveled by bus. Our Mission Team drove in our van, and other ministry leaders traveled in a truck. It is a very long drive that normally takes approx. 5 hours through rugged mountainous roads. But road construction made the drive even worse. It took 6 1/2 hours, much of it very bumpy. Motion sickness pills were needed by some, myself included. The good news is that the next trip will be much smoother because the road construction will be a vast improvement.

Beautiful view in the Mountains

The drive itself was very beautiful and we were treated to some wonderful views.

Short video of part of the Copan ruins

@paradise-found was very excited to see the ancient Mayan ruins, and he was not disappointed. Our large group also hired a local tour guide and he explained all the different sites to us.

Our daughter Lesly, with Mr & Mrs @paradise-found

Our daughter Lesly's heritage is Lenka Indian from the Copan area. So it was cool to be so close to her ancestry.

Beautiful view looking down on part of the ruins

From the guide we learned about the social, political and religious aspects of the Mayan people.

Paradise loved this amazing place

I have many more Scartlet Macaw photo's and excellent video's from the Copan ruins. I will be posting a separate blog on these beautiful birds.

The Scarlet Macaw is the national bird of Honduras

Near the end of the tour our guide, Ramon, has the group form a large circle. We passed his walking stick around the circle and when he halted it, the person who had the stick was asked a question from the tour. It was fun and reminded us of what we learned.

Of course, all the gringo's were chosen.

Video of the group passing the stick

Currently I do not have the time needed to go into detail on the ruins. Once home I will write a post with more photo's explaining each.

My wife, Martha, handing the stick back to Ramon

Check back tomorrow for more from Honduras
