No Work, No Pay rule

in #government5 months ago

A landmark policy has been set up by the Government of one of the states of India, Manipur. The policy is that all those government employees who are consistently absent from office without any valid reasons will have a pay cut. The ‘no work, no pay’ policy aims to address the issue of absenteeism and ensure that government employees fulfill their work responsibilities. The aim is to make the government employees feel responsible towards their work.

I feel this policy should be introduced through out the country, and why not. In private sector offices everything is performance based, no performance then no benefits and one is accountable for their reporting to office. The same culture should be set for people working in governments also. For those employees who work in banking sectors this is not a problem because they are held accountable. This rule is mainly for the people working in different ministries of the Government where reporting to work is taken very casually.

Government jobs have a lot of cushioning, they work fixed hours, they get all the bank holidays, have all the government benefits, retirement benefits. It is a boon to work in the government sectors and at the same time there are some disadvantages also. But overall it is a beneficial job and also difficult to get. When the government jobs rules will become more or less like private sector then some serious work will happen. Their work should also be linked to performance pay and incentives, which will drive them to perform better.
