GOOD NEWS! Morocco starts the African journey to renewable energies!

Host of last year's COP22, Morocco shown the image of an African leader in regards of renewable energies and respect of the environment in general. Last year, the Maghreb country banned the use of plastic bags, installed new tramway lines and automatic bicycle rentals around its countries . It also started a replacement strategy for its old and polluting public transportation systems.

More importantly, in 2015, King Mohammad VI committed to bring the country's generation of renewable energy to 52% by 2030. This corresponds to 10GW of energy produced. Over this, a significant part is to come from the gigantic solar farm Noore. Noore one is already in service and provides 160MW of clean energy produce by CSP (concentrated solar power) technology near Ouarzazate.

CSP is a technology using giant mirrors to reflect the solar energy on black tubes. Those tubes contain a liquid that super-heats and drive turbines to turn, hence producing electricity. Moreover, the system crystallizes sand, which serves as energy storage and keeps the electricity production for three hours after sunset, hence covering the peek-time.

Noor Two (also CSP) and Noor Three (a solar tower) are under construction and will add 350MW to the grid very soon.

There is still a lot to do to attain the goals fixed by the King, but Morocco is definitely on the good way. Sahara desert is a key location to solve worldwide energy crisis. Here is what it would take to power the world:
