Water Scarcity and Climate Change

DSC02545_wm.jpg

View from Khaju Bridge, Esfahad, Iran.

There's supposed to be a river flowing, but this time of year all water is conserved for distributing among desert cities like Kerman, Yazd, Esfahan itself and many more. Fresh water scarcity becomes bigger and bigger problem nowadays.
And "The first major city to run out of water" award goes to... Cape Town! It was predicted that the city will reach the "Day Zero" this month, however, by cutting water consumption in half they managed to delay the inevitable to the next year. It is not imminent now, but it will still happen and Cape Town is just the beginning.

It is not only due to the poor water management, climate change plays major role here, making droughts more frequent and severe. According to models +0.25 C temperature change estimated to happen in next 10 years will increase drought likelihood up to 7 times. Just a quarter degree change will have some drastic consequences.

Think about it. What can you do to help? Small things like turning off the water while brushing teeth or taking a walk instead of driving are not that hard.

That is when the large number of particular problems that each person may have, become of little relevance in the face of a problem as serious as the lack of water. Around here, in Venezuela, it has been our turn, on several occasions, to spend several days without receiving a drop of water in our homes, but basically for reasons of government inefficiency in the administration of water; because, here in our country if we have enough fresh water, but unfortunately we have another type of shortage: lack of good administrators and lack of good governors ... When these events have happened, we had to go out with our little plastic tanks to look water to any place in the city where someone "sells" it ... Of course, in our homes we put a hard plan of internal rationing in which we reduce by approximately 50% the daily use of water: less water for bathing ( about 10 liters), we dirty less clothes using only light clothes in the house, we use much less water to clean the house, sometimes we visit family homes that if they have water and allow us at least to bathe, we recover water from air conditioning, if by chance it rains, of course we collect this water, we do not hold social meetings in the house, we use a small glass of water to brush our teeth (nothing to open the water jet in the sink), we do few strong physical activities in order to keep us fresh most of the time ... Now, the option I see for these regions is to work on investment projects aimed at the installation of desalination plants (extract salt and minerals from sea water to turn it into drinking water), which are certainly very expensive but at least allow you to have an alternative to the huge problem ... "Currently, approximately 1% of the world's population is dependent on desalinated water to meet daily needs, but the UN expects that 14% of the world's population will encounter water scarcity by 2025 ... Desalinated water is usually healthier than water from rivers and ground water, and there is less salt and limescale in it "(https: // en. wikipedia.org/wiki/Desalination)...Greetings @nameless-berk

I had no idea it was so bad

Yes, unfortunately in our country, public services have deteriorated greatly in the last 10 years and everything basically is for bad management contaminated with the political issue ... But we are still a splendid country with great opportunities for tourism. Greetings.

As the summer approaches, a man needs more water
