⚠ Attention ⚠ - Steemit.com Glitch - Do not use 5 tags when creating posts! (Only use 4)

in glitch •  2 years ago

If you create a post using 5 tags, users will not be able to see the post when they browse the 4 secondary tags. It will only show up in the new/hot/trending category of the main tag. If you create it using 4 tags though, then it will show up when users browse the primary tag as well as the 3 secondary tags.

Example 1 (OK):

  • Tags: glitch steem steemit news
  • Users will see the post when browsing the glitch, steem, steemit, and news tags.

Example 2 (Not OK):

  • Tags: glitch steem steemit news issue
  • Users will only see the post when browsing the glitch tag.
  • Users will not see the post when browsing the steem, steemit, news, and issue tags

This was reported by @jacobcards in this post. There is an error with the Steem blockchain API which is causing it.

Here is the GitHub issue to track the issue/fix:

How long has this been affecting posts? Is it due to the hard-fork or the updates just before it?

·

I am pretty sure it was introduced with the hard-fork.

·
·

Dang it! Have posted several blogs since the hard-fork and all did not get much attention. Perhaps that is why. :(

·
·
·

Probably :(

Thanks for the notice on this... Can we edit already-posted stories to remove a 5th tag? Will that work?

Thanks for the info! This is good to know. I was getting the feeling my posts were going into data processing purgatory more than usual for some reason. ;)

·

Yes, this is probably why.

Hi, í also found a glitch, is it ok to plug it very shameless here?

·

Sure, go for it.

·

·

I dug into it a bit. It turns out the "Mute" is actually working properly. The info that is reported on steemd.com is a little misleading/confusing. I replied to your post with more details :)

Thanks for letting us know about it. Following you now.

Thanks @timcliff. Been offline for a few days. Came back and things seem a bit different. Thanks for the info and tip!

·

Yeah, there have been lots of improvements made recently - but unfortunately it looks like a few things got broken in the process. Luckily nothing too major though :)

·
·

Thanks good to know.

Is that the reason for some of the tags in trending which appear to have never been used when you check new?

·

I am not 100% sure, but it seems very likely.

Excellent catch! I just barely posted something and kept it to 4 tags where normally I do use 5.
I like the buggy clipart too. LOL

·

Thanks :)

Excellent post sir @ timcliff, very informative and clear, as always putting what you need to put to make things transparent.
I really like your transparent way of working, congratulations, thanks for sharing

·

Thank you @jlufer :)

I noticed this too, but it was not until @karenmckersie mentioned it that I really began to think of it as a glitch. Now you are confirming her suspicions, thanks.

ps, I also noticed that I still have my Followers but lost most of those I was following....weird
let me fix that, those I was following are now back again.

·

There is a separate glitch related to the followers. The followers aren't actually "lost" - they are just not being shown properly. I think refreshing it fixes it. They are aware of it, and working on a fix.

hmmmm
I've decided to quit using more than one or two tags anyway..

·

Up to you :) I always prefer to use as many (relevant) tags as I can, to increase the chance that people will come across my posts.

·
·

that's the theory.
any evidence that it actually works?

·
·
·

I don't either.
on the new busy format posts are indexed by tag. It might make a difference there, but here it's like bobbing for apple. You get what pops up next. I don't think tags matter.

Thanks guys for finding this bug. Definitely something that needs to be worked out as soon as possible!

·

The credit for that goes to @jacobcards! I'm just trying to bring attention to the issue :)

·
·

Oh, I know! That why i said "you guys" ;) Good of you to bring attention to it, as it need to be fixed!

I read about this in another post yesterday. so, i posted with 4 tags only today.

·

I'm glad that the word is getting out :)

·
·

I'll be more glad if it's fixed :-)

Didn't know that. Thanks for the info

@pnc, it's important to take note for our next posts !

Thank you @timcliff !

OMG... I thought that was intentional! '-(òロó)-' I also didn't know it wouldn't happen if you had less than five tags... Good to know!

·

Glad this helped! I know they are working on a fix. Hopefully it should be live soon.

Great post! Thanks for sharing. New to the platform but noticed it pretty soon and was going to start cracking down. Thanks for the help!
