Do you have wild comfrey on your property? Only the cultivated varieties are safe to consume. Wild comfrey is quite a bit smaller than the cultivated comfrey and it has yellow flowers instead of purple & white. Wild comfrey is not safe to consume. Never ingest comfrey roots. Use comfrey roots externally only. This information is from the herbalist I follow. She has been consuming cultivated comfrey for decades and regularly test her liver to show comfrey does not damage liver. I believe there is a lot of propaganda on comfrey out there.
No wild comfrey. I think it might be a Russian one but I need to wait til Spring to really check again. I totally agree - a lot of the older books talk about comfrey as a wonder herb and I rate them more.
