RE: Do you want to make your own natural liquid fertilizer? One that is especially rich in potassium and perfect to encourage flowers and fruit set?
@laundrylady, just did some reading, I reckon i've got the WRONG comfrey - fine for fertiliser, but not sure it's good to eat. I'm going to keep that as I have tons of it, but I'm going to order the edible one so next Spring I can experiment with some recipes - used to make comfrey fritters, but not here and not since England.
Do you have wild comfrey on your property? Only the cultivated varieties are safe to consume. Wild comfrey is quite a bit smaller than the cultivated comfrey and it has yellow flowers instead of purple & white. Wild comfrey is not safe to consume. Never ingest comfrey roots. Use comfrey roots externally only. This information is from the herbalist I follow. She has been consuming cultivated comfrey for decades and regularly test her liver to show comfrey does not damage liver. I believe there is a lot of propaganda on comfrey out there.
No wild comfrey. I think it might be a Russian one but I need to wait til Spring to really check again. I totally agree - a lot of the older books talk about comfrey as a wonder herb and I rate them more.
