RE: Gardening On A Budget: How To Regrow Vegetables From Kitchen Scraps (FREE SBD GIVEAWAY!)

in #gardening6 years ago

Love this @simplymike! My momma has been doing this for a few years now. Green onions are definitely the best growers. We havent bought any in months. Just chop off what you need and it continues to grow, like magic! Another GREAT one is tomatoes, tomatillos especially! You can slice the tomato sideways and plant. It will start a brand new plant! Have you ever been able to find tomatillo seeds in the stores? Mom never could so she took the regeneration route and it freakin worked! She had a whole plant full of little tomatillos! Also a little fyi, tomatillos grow into their "skin". Very cool stuff! If you feel like it, go have @mamajeani post from awhile back a look, she wrote quite a bit on regeneration planting. Heres one of the posts (its from two months ago, so dont waste a vote for it) that has some good info!

Also check out some of her other planting posts, she has lots of info on her page for sure! I know you have quite the green thumb yourself so Im sure you would enjoy her writings!

Hope youve been able to get out and enjoy some gardening lately! Have a great day :)

I’ve heard about the tomatoes, but never tried it. Most of my experiences with the veggies listed above weren’t very succesful...
Except for the garlic. During the entire gardening season I put pieces of garlic everywhere. In all my beds and pots, harlic is growing , because it helps to save my veggies from getting eaten by slugs.

For sure! We are doing the potatoes this year. We planted all kinds of dried cut up potatoes and they have lots of green growing. Havent opened up the bottom to see if we have any actual potatoes yet but its hopeful! And the pineapple, we tried. It grows and grows and ultimately dies during Winter, EVERY damn year! I want to see a mini pineapple grow from the top soo bad!

Do you take it inside during winter?

lol... that would be too easy! ;)

Texas's winter is kinda funny. Itll be warm and sunny one day and freezing through the night, just to turn around and be warm again the next day. I suppose we could just keep it inside! We will try that this year.

Thanks for this I just brought tomato seeds but they were really expensive. Was wondering if there was some way to grow from Existing tomato or collect its seed. I live in Spain so It should grow hopefully
