Tree Tomatoes also grow in Germany
The tree tomato also grows with us in the cold north.
Hello Dear garden and exotic lovers. In the last days the tree tomatoes have matured with us. So I don't want to let you take a look at the fruits.
Picture of the fruits:
This year, proud 25 pieces have become fully ripe on the tree. One or the other has already been scooped out.
The fruits are ripe when they have adopted their colour and become so soft that they yield slightly at pressure. The fruits can remain on the tree until they are easily shriveleded. Now they should be removed and stored in the refrigerator.
A cut fruit:
Smell and taste:
Smell and taste are reminiscent of passion fruit, but in my experience everyone tastes different.
Here is a recipe for a colourful salad with tree tomatoes
The seeds:
The multiplication of cuttings and seeds is not a problem here in Germany either. I have done both successfully. One of my first self-cut cuttings already wore several fruits in the second year.
The seeds are the germs of the organism. I soaked it in water for one day and then pressed on slightly moistened and pressed on soil. A pressure-sealed bag, in which 1-2 shocks were given with a spray bottle, is a completely sufficient small "greenhouse".
There will soon be another article about the cuttings.
Note:
There are different varieties of tree tomatoes, which are featured here differ from the other varieties. The other varieties are larger, and have dark solid seeds that you may not like to eat.
