Putting up my greenhouse today

in #gardening6 years ago (edited)

I am constantly reminded of Murphy's law every time I start a project. For those of you who don't know what that is:

Murphy's law is an adage or epigram that is typically stated as: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong".

I don't know if that is just me or this happens to everyone but it has been quite a ride already with projects this summer. I was planning on doing a big garden this year but we got into our house about a month later than expected, we thought at the latest it would be the end of may but we didn't move in until the end of June. By the time we got all of our furniture bought/delivered and got settled in it was another few weeks. We figured since the season is so long here we could still get a few plants into the ground, better late than never right?

Our back yard was pretty over grown and shaded so I started cutting down branches and trees to get some light in the back yard and that's when the first problem arose. A tree fell on my arm, it didn't break it but it swelled up the size of a softball and I couldn't move it very well so that held me up another 10 days or so before I had full movement in my arm again.

As soon as my arm was healed the next issue came along, rain! I'm not talking about a day or two, or a sprinkle here and there, I am talking about 3 weeks of rain every single day. Flooding everywhere. Our culverts are filled and our back yard was literally a giant puddle. This is the most rain this state has seen in many years and of course that happens the year we move here lol.

Anyhow, we decided to get a greenhouse to shield the plants from all the rain but haven't been able to put it up because there hasn't been a day nice enough to do so. Well today is finally that day. The sun is shining and the ground is drying up a little. Its basically now or never because it's still suppose to rain for the next two weeks!

UPDATE: Got half way done with our greenhouse and a storm came in.. Thanks weather people, your "15% chance for rain" should have been 100% chance.. now everything is soaking wet and we have to finish it in the mud whenever if this damn rain stops.

Well, wish me luck! LoL

Cool that its going up may it help uyou to grow so many fresh produce :)

Don't worry, you and I are both cursed with murphy's law.. Sometimes I wish there was something we could do to counteract it like the anti-murphy's law. everything that could go right would go right.

LoL, glad someone understands my pain, sorry u are cursed like me.. anit-murphys law, yeah that would be a nice change for sure! Ha

The Anti-Murphy's Law ---> metaphysics says this has to exist. Everything that can go right ... goes right.

Maybe those are what we call miracles.

That Murphy can be such a brat! LOL!

And, UGH! to all the setbacks you've had, but YAY that you're still moving forward. Fingers crossed and all kinds of good juju being sent your way that your greenhouse gets built, and your produce flourishes!

The greenhouse is going up.. you're settling in quite nicely.
Can't wait to see all you seedlings and plants inside once it's up and ready.

Thanks @goldendawne! We did get the entire frame set up after the rain stopped. Unfortunately Murphy's law smacked us twice yesterday, and while we were putting on the canvas the wind picked up and got so bad that we had to take the tarp back down because it was like a sail and it was trying to rip it down before we could complete it and make it sturdy enough to feel confident about it..
Then rain again this morning.. lol.. but i am determined so i will get this thing up eventually!

Oh man!!! Gotta love that wind!
Nothing worse than a project this BIG and good ol' Ma Nature blows you away!

Can't wait to see the finished project.. after the rain... after the windy days... it will all come together for you two.

At least you can be looking forward to some awesom greenhouse gardening in the future.
Good luck!
