Daughter wants to garden
Lily had a request to plant some sunflowers, flowers, and carrots. If there is one human thrilled by the stages of growth in nature...it's her.
It's become a tradition for my wife to point out places throughout the yard that Lily has planted various plants then it's my job to try and avoid those areas with lawn equipment!
We made a small area for her sunflowers. They were outside of the garden fence but they should be ok. If we see evidence of critters we will make sure to put a fence around them.
Lily helped break the ground, plants the seeds, cover the soil, and water it.
Next we planted the carrots
This was inside the fence of the garden. Lily helped with everything just like before. She was impressed at how small the carrot seeds were compared to the sunflower seeds. We didn't plant very many carrots before the rain started to come.
We had started to go out earlier in the day and the rain started pouring as soon as our feet hit the back steps to go out into the garden.
We had about an hour of work in before it started to rain again.
The Rain
Spending time with children, especially your own, is one of the best gifts life has to offer. Their genuine inquisitiveness and love for life reminds one to try and stay young at heart.
This was most specially enjoyable because we were practicing a life skill at the suggestion of the child. This project was part of our homeschooling for the day.
While most kids are cooped up in a classroom devoid of sunshine and fresh air and raising hands to be able to speak...We were outside learning about nature, growing food, exercising, conversing with one another and developing a skill.
I'll take it!
