Warframe - Fun free to play game

in #gaming6 years ago (edited)

For the last couple of weeks, I've been throwing an incredible amount of money for games I don't play. Well, I play them more or less. I always like to play PUBG, even though I'm totally useless, but most of the time we play Warframe with my boyfriend, which is for free. Isn't that an irony? Other games are just dust catchers. Since my boyfriend got a new laptop at work, he hasn't touched the PlayStation, so the console and its games are crying silently because nobody is playing them.

I have at least Kingdom Come: Deliverance for PS4, but I didn't even want to play it last weekend because I'm not able to complete one mission. It's definitely bugged! No, I'm kidding. I'm just a terrible noob. So we play only co-op games on our laptops (Why did they just give him the new laptop?). We are game addicted right now. We are not nearly going out (when I don't count the way to work and to the store to get something to eat). And what a game is to blame?

But why?

Because we both have fun playing it and maybe because it's PvE. Thanks to it I'm able to play it quite well, so it's one of a few games where I'm not a complete noob. And it is also quite relaxing game because it is not necessary to think during the missions. Except for spy missions. Spy missions are horrible.

Plot

Well, there's some plot, but Warframe is simply not the game you're playing because of the story. Your goal is to kill everything that moves, sometimes to kill a boss and mainly to carry out missions, collect materials for new stuff and characters and exp, exp, exp.

But if you still want to know its story, it could be summed up as a fight against a few evil races that want to dominate the galaxy.

Gameplay

Gameplay is quite fun. You are fulfilling missions of different kinds that are repeating, but every one of them is still somehow different, because the maps are generated procedurally.

You have available three weapons - primary (OP gun), secondary (gun) and melee and it's up to you which weapon you'll use the most. As Excalibur I like melee, but not that weapon you can see in gifs. This hammer, which I'm trying to master right now, is horrible because its attack speed is so bad. However, these're not all possible ways to kill enemies. Each Warframe has its own four skills. E.g., my Excalibur has a strong slash, a stun, a spell that kills (or hurts) all the enemies around him and an OP sword that chops and kills everything around him. These spells, however, consume energy, which is not always easy to find.

There is no need to fight in each mission. In a lot of modes, you can just jump around the enemy, avoid combat and end the mission quickly. It is simply up to you whether you are in a hurry or want to kill as many enemies as possible and get as many materials as possible for new weapons.

I think you just realized that the game is primarily focused on PvE, but you can also find some PvP modes within the so-called Conclave. We tried it once. We got to some strange football that we didn't fully understand how to play it, and so our excursion to PvP in Warframe ended, but nobody is playing it anyway.

So, the only things you will be doing in each mission are:

Hacking

Hacking is present almost in every mission. When you turn on an alarm, you can turn it off at some terminal on your way, or you can use hacking to get data in spy missions. But nobody likes them because sometimes it's quite hard to get to the terminal unnoticed. Notwithstanding the fact that hacking mini-games are getting more difficult and there is no room for mistakes.

Jumping, sliding and flying insanely

By furiously pressing the Ctrl (slide) and the space bar while holding W and Shift, you can overcome various obstacles, climb up to heaven, or compete with friends, who first get to the extraction point.

Getting that loot

Warframe is a loot game, so on every step, you encounter cabinets, crystals and other boxes full of materials and other things you'll need for crafting.

Killing every moving target (or just avoiding them)

Every mission is full of enemies who are very annoying and want to get some headshots.

Killing everything with some strangers (or your strange friends)

Every defense mission is even better when you're playing with friends or some strangers because one person simply can't do it. Also, there is always the advantage of playing with someone more experienced.

Warframe

When you start playing the game for the first time, you have only 3 Warframes to choose from, but the game contains much more. You can either buy them for real money or simply buy for gaming currency a blueprint, farm materials to create its parts and craft it.

Weapons

As a reward for completing missions, you'll get a lot of blueprints to craft new weapons, and then you can master them. Thanks to this, you will be able to complete the Mastery Rank, which increases the level of your account. It means the more weapons and Warframes you'll master the bigger level your account will have.

And of course, there are some upgrades to modify your weapons. Other rewards for the missions are so-called Mods, which are cards with various upgrades that can help you improve your weapon and character. So even the shittiest weapon can become an OP machine. Each card, however, costs some points that are limited.

Crafting

I still mention some crafting here. But how it works?

In your spaceship, you have the so-called Foundry, where you can see all the available blueprints with the requirements for their completion. When you get the necessary materials, you simply click on the blueprint to craft it. But it lasts time, so you can wait even 24 hours until the thing is completed.

Missions

Of course, there's navigation in your ship. Our beloved solar system is in the main role, and to progress to other planets, you must always complete missions so-called Junction. In this mission, you simply defeat a boss. But to be able to go on this mission it is necessary to fulfill some other quests on the actual planet.

1.png

There are classic quests, which has more parts. There are also time-limited events to obtain materials, blueprints, and so on, or there are missions that serve to open so-called relics that contain a lot of rare blueprints and raw materials. Let's say that each relic contains ten things. After the mission four of these things are drawn, and you choose one of them.

2.png

There are different types of missions. These include the retrieval of data, the defense of a particular artifact from enemy waves, the capture, the search for prisoners and their escort to safety, killing bosses, and many others.

Community

What is worth mentioning is the community. It's so kind that it'll surprise you. Nobody hates you in chat when you do something bad and experienced players can help you anytime. And you'll need this help! The logic of the game is quite confusing, and we have entered a few stages where we didn't know how to continue.

Summary

Despite the fact that we have been playing this game a couple of hours, we are still at the beginning. There is so much to do in this game, but most things are so incomprehensible to the newcomers that without the help of the community one would not get too far. An example is an open world, which has recently been added to the game and when you're here, you don't know what to do.

But when you forget all of the "WTF, what should I do?" states, this is a super fun game, great for relaxing, because you can customize your style of play to your current mood. And I can definitely recommend it to all couples because the game is more fun playing with someone else.

Thank you for reading!

May the seed be with you! :D

i have heard a lot of good things about this game. by some of the videos i have seen it's really amazing and it has many characters different in appearance and in skills! sadly my laptop can't keep up with it and it will lag a lot if i downloaded but the idea of merging an fps with ''aliens'' and fighting style is amazing

We also have some lags at times, but usually only when someone joined a mission. Maybe you just underestimate your laptop :P Every Can I run it website was telling me that I can't run some game and I have no problem with it. Sure, streaming is bad, and I play it on the lowest settings, but it's playable. Even PUBG.

the idea of merging an fps with ''aliens'' and fighting style is amazing

I agree! I'm pretty bad at shooters, but this one is great. Especially those spells are OP. Once we defended something with some guy who just stood in place and all the enemies were dying (I don't know what Warframe it was.). You're useless at this moment, but it is ideal for farming materials.

so is it balanced or it can be one sided based on the amount of money you have given?

It is not PvP, so it doesn't matter how much money you spend on the game. Others won't be affected. They'll just say: "Wow, this guy is so cool and OP, I want this Warframe (or skin or whatever) too!" and that's all. And when you purchase something you still need to start from the beginning and master it (weapons, warframes), so it is somehow balanced.

Even newbies are completing other missions then more experienced players, so they'll meet only in some events or when the OP guys want to farm materials, or when it is your friend who is guiding you through the game.

ahhh i thought it was pvp.. you opened up a new world for me :P

:D There is some PvP but nobody is playing it.

I just looked on the pics...What is that character carrying? A guitar? A hammer?

The character can fly D:

Yeah, it may look a little like guitar, but it is a hammer. I just want to master it and sell it, because it is so slow... ><

Well, it is not actually flying, but with some combo of buttons, you won't almost touch the ground. And once you get so-called Archwing, you can go on missions, where you're flying in the space. In the foundry is also some Archwing launcher so maybe once you craft it you'll be able to fly even in other missions, but it is just my hypothesis.

One of the best f2p games out there (except for pure MP). Honestly it is not fun alone at all, like you said. However it is not for everyone, it is grindy af and the RPG system in this game is hard to understand

Yeah, I agree with you on all points. It was so boring when I was playing it alone to get some gameplay video (gifs are the result because I forget to turn on sound :D) and I had to cancel some mission because it was so hard to do it alone without energy.
The system is hard to understand, but I think I'm getting used to it.

I am glad, that your gameplay was without audito :D cuz the gifs are cool af xD

I'm glad you liked it! They look somehow cool :D and it was the only way how to reuse the gameplay. Some parts were laggy.
