Building fortifications in Fortnite Battle Royale

Personally, I am a big fan of PUBG, but I never really managed to play it well through my PC. When the Battle Royale mode came to Fortnite in September, I finally got the chance to play a good Battle Royale game. I find it a very nice addition to Fortnite and like to play it. Especially with a full squad, it is very fat to do.

The Battle Royale mode hype

2017 is surely the year of the Battle Royale mode. After the success of the popular Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, many developers decided to add a Battle Royale mode to their game. Crytek announced in November that the free-to-play shooter Warface will receive one, Nintendo released the 3DS game Kirby Battle Royale in the same month and the Chinese tech and game giant Tencent is working on its own Battle Royale game 'Europa'.

Epic Games and People Can Fly decided that Fortnite needed a Battle Royale mode and brought it to the game in September. PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC players can compete against each other only in duos or squads of up to four players. The mode was quickly very popular, partly because on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at that time no Player Unknown's Battlegrounds could be played. Now players could play for free a game that was very similar to the Battle Royal game. After the release it had more than 10 million players within two weeks.

Many new items

While the game is still in Early Access, Epic Games has already added many new items. So it came soon after the release with supply-drops where players can get all kinds of items. In the Battle Royale mode folder of Fortnite, players can try to hide from enemies in different ways. So they have the choice to hide in the bushes. When the developers found out that this happened a lot, they decided to release a new item, the bunch. Players can get the special item out of crates and drops and play like a bunch. Players will also be given the opportunity to glide again to a location by adding Launch Pads, as they do when the game starts and jumps out of the Battlebus. Furthermore, the Battle Royal mode occasionally gets new weapons.

Special events

In addition to all new items, the game also deals with temporary events. In the 1.10 update the free 50v50 mode was temporarily available. Here, two teams of fifty players, consisting of different squads, compete against each other until the opponent is completely eliminated. With the subsequent update Epic Games brought the Battle Royale mode completely into the Christmas spirit with Survie the Holidays. Special items were added, such as outfits and a snowball cannon in which grenades turn into snowballs. Furthermore, the map is decorated with Christmas lights and there are several Christmas trees with treasure boxes.

Only in Early Access

Fortnite: Battle Royale came out for free for PlayStation 4. A friend pointed out to me that there was good play for free download. When I heard that I had not really heard of Fortnite and I did not have very high expectations. In the meantime I have already played some nice games of the Battle Royale mode and I enjoy it immensely.

Of course, the mode is very similar to PUBG. It has the same purpose; in a team to survive on a folder with a hundred players, while to a certain place to play. PUBG is of course not yet playable on PlayStation 4 and therefore Fortnite: Battle Royale is a good replacement. It's only in Early Access and with good servers, occasional events, new items, patches and updates is on the way to becoming a really good game. I certainly enjoy it, especially with a full squad of friends it's fun to do! Do not write it down just because it looks like a PUBG clone and try it out. Fortnite: Battle Royale might surprise you.
