New Style Boutique 3 Review - Now with pop stars!

Who would not want a wardrobe filled with more than twenty thousand items of clothing, especially if that closet fits into a small apartment above a store? For anyone who wants to pursue this dream, there is the Nintendo Presents: New Style Boutique series. We take a closer look at the latest part in this series in our New Style Boutique 3 review.

As a young, fashionable girl you get the old and hidden boutique from your uncle Tim. Your uncle is an eccentric person, who has decided to go on a world trip from the heel on the branch. And he leaves his shop in your hands and that of your assistant. You are probably better at running a fashion store than it is.

And yes, before you know it, the city is more beautiful and cheerful because of your hard work and you spread a bit of magic by dressing the people around you differently. It does not stop there, you also help in the hair salon and the beautician, you design clothes and in your spare time you work as a stylist for pop stars and models.

Girlish? You would have thought so!

If you think this game is a standard game for girls, then you are completely wrong. New Style Boutique 3 is a polished game with more content than the average Triple A title. The game may be about fashion, but running good with your store is very difficult if your agenda is overloaded. And then we do not even talk about the fact that you have to play all elements of the game to be able to continue with the story and to play more openly.

So the game is pretty tough, especially in the beginning. But you'll be sucked into the world of New Style Boutique 3 and not even notice that a few hours have passed when you can finally go into the club for live music. Every time you get one goal, you get at least two new goals. So you'll be working for at least 20 hours when you've played all the clothing brands open and helped your pop stars to the top. And then the end game starts!

Make your own music video

Oh yes, those pop stars, that is a completely new element in the game. In New Style Boutique 3 your life grows together with that of the pop stars. And of course the performances can all be seen and heard. Indeed, the songs are all sung and provided with a music video. These videos can always be viewed or edited on the video app of the game, ViMiauw .

Because you actively follow the career of the pop stars, you will also occasionally go to a concert or festival to provide the stars with a fashionable outfit. At one point you are even invited to go on holiday with a world famous singer. As a hairstylist, of course.

Very recognizable

Since you have to keep a store, the game is obviously full of characters. In addition to the larger characters, you also have the characters that are only intended to buy something from you. But do not think that these characters have not been developed. They all have their own style and personality. For example, you learn that one loves dogs more than cats, and you discover that another person calls himself a 'professional sleeper'.

You will begin to recognize yourself in some characters and scenarios. One of the pop stars tells us that she has been living a week of instant noodles when you bring her food. Another character does not understand word jokes and therefore does not like them. You will discover nice things about the characters around you and sometimes you will recognize things.

Also play online

The game also has a lot of options to play online. This way you can sell different outfits and your Internet boutique. Other players can buy these outfits. There is a separate place for selling your own designed clothes. And yes, you can also buy the designs of other players.

This does have its limits. Of course, buying outfits and designs costs in-game currency, and you have to keep a budget to buy new clothes for your boutique. Also, it is not certain whether this option lets you purchase from players worldwide. At the previous New Style Boutique games there were quite a few differences between Europe and North America. This even went so far that entire characters were different. So you could not play together and there is a big chance that this is the case again.

Yet very much the same

Speaking of the older games, let's say right away that the game has basically changed little in terms of gameplay. Some things have been added to make the game play nicer, for example you can check your inventory before you say you can sell something and you can tell a customer that you are going to do the shopping for them.

For the rest, the game is mainly a combination of the last two games. And that is not very bad in itself. The formula works, even though the game is repetitive. For fans this will be absolutely no problem and for new players the simple gameplay is a good way to get acquainted with the series. This is also the best game to start with as a newcomer. The game is also in Dutch, so that small children can play it too. You can still not play as a boy.

Also something that comes from the last game is the following. All existing amiibo will unlock special items in the game. Yes, really all amiibo out there, so from Princess Peach to the Watcher of The Legend of Zelda. Place the amiibo on your new 3DS or your NFC reader and you will get something special. That is of course great for everyone who collects amiibo, but may make it difficult for others to get all items.

Conclusion

Despite all things that have remained the same, we can state that New Style Boutique 3 is not as big or as good as the average game about fashion, but rises high above it. So high that you need a fashionable binocular to see the game. But do not take this from us, why do not you try to run a boutique yourself?
