Assassin's Creed Origins Hidden Ones Review - Small but familiar

About two and a half months ago, as a Bayek, we entered Ancient Egypt. At the end of the day you would think well, but nothing is less true. The Order of the Elderly from the main story is not defeated. In fact, every time new enemies and threats are added. Again work on the shop for Bayek and his companions, because now Bayek is no longer alone. Several head offices have now been established from which "The Hidden Ones" plan their missions.

The Hidden Ones

The Hidden Ones is also the title of the new chapter in which you will experience a somewhat smaller adventure with Bayek. This is the first addition to the main story of the game, in which you will also enter a new area. At the beginning you will be asked to travel to Sinai. The new desert-like area where you get a separate map, since it is more to the east of the ordinary playing world. Your help is desperately needed in this desert-like area, because one of your companions sees with dismay how people suffer from the tyranny of the Order of the Elderly.

Dutiful as you are, you travel to this area to offer assistance to one of your fellow assassins. Once there, it quickly becomes clear what you have to do. Namely those who pose a threat to public order as soon as possible to the afterlife. The killing of your enemies is of course your goal again, so it is not all that surprising. The importance is again weighty, because you have to make sure that the government in Rome does not get it all over here. In that respect, the game design is not very different than before.

Small but familiar

The new game world has shrunk remarkably, which is also logical given this shorter adventure. In the new area that you enter, however, you must continue to do the same. Just like in the main game, you are again literally working up yourself until you are strong enough to kill certain enemies or to take on certain missions. The level cap has now been increased to forty-five. By combining side missions with other activities, you will rise in level and that means you can get through the main story faster.

The whole still feels very familiar. Did you play the main story, then it is all cut for you. The downside of this is that it is actually not surprising what you get for your choice. You have the same kind of side missions, the same kind of enemies and more. Plus that the story literally does not have too much to spare. If you are going to finish the main story as quickly as possible, then you will be finished with a good three hours. Are you a true collector and do you want to do everything in this expansion? Then you are together for about five to six hours.

Snack

That in itself is fine for a snack like this, because that's how it feels. You get new and better weapons and you can earn more skill points, but you do not get new skills to unlock. If you want something more challenging yourself, then it is advisable not to play this expansion at the lowest level. Especially since you will not encounter anything new in terms of enemies and you will easily be able to roll through everywhere else. Do you really miss something if you skip this expansion? In my opinion not and that is a bit of a shame.

Conclusion

We have actually already answered the question if it is worth the purchase of the DLC if you do not have a Season Pass. In any case, not equal, because you miss relatively little. You do get a new area for your choice, but it does not look very different from what you already know. Is this expansion bad? No, certainly not, because the gameplay itself is still very well put together. Technically, the game is also better with the updates that have been implemented so in that context the expansion is fine. In short, it is not surprising and you miss nothing, but you pay only a decade for this and that is not much. Because of this, it can not hurt to purchase it if you still enjoy or enjoyed the game.
