Why Minecraft may be one of the best games of all time

in #gaming7 years ago

As many of you know I am a legacy gamer, that is to say I love many of the classics, from Super mario 64 to Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time, and especially Final Fantasy VII. I loved those games because they really expanded the gaming world in terms of gameplay and were probably some of the first 'open world' sandbox style games (although were rather limited by hardware, but they left the door wide open for games like Grand Theft Auto, Minecraft, Skyrim and so many others).

As you can probably tell from a few of the posts I have done, I am both an analytical person and a creative one, and whilst I really enjoy sandbox building style games, I'm not the greatest builder by a long shot, and really prefer building 'mechanical' style builds. This is where Minecraft comes in and kicks ass, unlike other 'building games' like Lego Worlds or others, Minecraft incorporates something called Redstone, this allows people, like myself, who are more analytical and 'mechanical' to build awesome technological things in the Minecraft world. From automatically opening doors, to even a fully fledged computer! I mean its absolutely bonkers what some people have done with the stuff.

While I'm not crazy enough (nor have the time) to try and build some of these absolutely huge redstone projects, I do like to use it to make a bunch of secret and hidden entrances, areas, random opening doors and a bunch of cool small and medium projects. And whilst I also might not be the best builder, I do love making cool feature houses and rebuilding some things I find on google images.

This is one of the images of the Psilink world, another one will be provided of the back end, we (Matt, Vivian, Joey, Nick, David and I) have been working on and off on this world since September last year and have built many projects (some of which are unfinished at the moment)

Here's a second image, which I believe is much nicer than the first, with the unfinished Colosseum on the right, to the Creeper castle on the left. Most of these buildings have some form of Redstone secrets to discover which make them interesting and unique, rather than just plastered on buildings.

Minecraft captivates both the creative and analytical mind whilst playing the game, whether it be to build a fancy castle to show your friends, or to build a secret tunnel to scare them or to hide your stuff from enemies. it encapsulates both the creative and analytical imagination, as for both of these things (including building redstone) you have to imagine how you will design and what it is you are looking to create.

With over 4 million daily users, the game being both Child and Adult Friendly, and with a very helpful (massive) and passionate community, it is easy to see why Minecraft could be one of the best games of all time.

If you haven't given it a go, I would highly recommend it. If you are an adult with children, I also recommend grabbing them a copy, it's a brilliant way to not only allow their creativity expand (like playing legos), but also to allow them to dabble with Redstone logic and conceptually learn about how computers process information (binary).

Well let me know what you guys think, Have you/do you play Minecraft?, what sort of experiences have you had with the game? Let me know your thoughts in the comments, and if you enjoyed this post, be sure to give it a like, resteem and follow me for more content like this! Until next time guys, stay beautiful 🙂

Hey @locikll
This story made it to the ღ #steempearls of @tabea . Check it out at https://steemit.com/steempearls/@tabea/steempearls-11

Minecraft is epic. I love the game since many years, and I never got tired of it! Thank you for that report.

I think someone had finally convinced me to give Minecraft a try, excellent job. I think I will give it a go when it comes out on Switch later this year.
Upvoted and followed. If you get a chance check out my Zelda posts and let me know what you think. I'll be doing more games shortly, acquiring the screenshots for posts takes a bit.

And to update, apparently it released for the Switch back in May and I never noticed. Too busy playing Breath of the Wild. Going to acquire it soon.

Oh what, it's on the Switch? I never noticed either, and I'll be definitely sure to check out your Zelda posts man, anything for a fellow Zelda fan!

Not only is that coming out for the switch but later this year there's going to be a Minecraft story mode game. Not too sure what that one's going to entail as I haven't looked at it yet but I'm definitely going to dig around and see what it's looking like.

Oh it's the Telltale game series, It's been out a while (3-4 years I think), but it should be coming to the switch too then, that's pretty awesome! :)

Switch has a good line up. And there is a lot more on the horizon.

I really enjoy this post. This post explains a lot about the game minecraft which I attend to play haha. Amazing Job! Got my upvote

Thanks mate, I really appreciate that :)

The number of hours that the average minecraft player puts into the game is incredible. I know dozens of people who have spent thousands of hours and many more who are on their way. I'm glad I don't spend nearly as much time as I used to but can still login and have fun playing for a few hours ever few months or so.

Definitely man!! It's absolutely insane it makes sense why though, its an incredible game that caters to so many people

I really like playing Minecraft. I have been playing it since I was a kid LOL.
Great post, @locikll.
You may find my new post useful to you- It's about choosing hot topics to write about on Steemit: https://steemit.com/steemit/@lazariko12/b-o-o-s-t-y-o-u-r-s-t-e-e-m-i-t-b-l-o-g-b-y-c-h-o-o-s-i-n-g-h-o-t-t-o-p-i-c-s

I think the Minecraft game is appropriate for kids. I don't think they will get scared from some stuff. If you will buy it, just make sure that kid is not scared and maybe join him while he is playing to ensure that everything is ok. Also, you can find a good server for little kids in Minecraft here https://minecraft.buzz/. My nephew is eight years old, and he really enjoys playing Minecraft games. So if you think that this will be a good gift for your kid, go on. No one knows your kid better than you.
