5 Good Games if You Want to Play as Animals

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

"All your dreams could come true. You must have some ...dreams."

-The Mysterious Spirit (Seasons After Fall)

Had enough games where you played as hoomans? Want to try something else? But I don't mean Elf, Dwarf, or Demon and such. How about games that let you play as animals, aside of the infamous Goat Simulator that is.

"I had enough of that too. Sonic? He's a hedgehog. Also, Star Fox? Banjo-Kazooie? Crash Bandicoot?"
No no, in this post I mean non-humanoid animals but (some) still possess special abilities.
"Ecco the Dolphin? Okami?"
Please, let me just write this post.
"And don't forget that you can be a Rottweiler in GTA V and a rat in Dishonored"
... .

The first Shelter game is pretty much the same as Shelter 2, survive the wilds raising your cubs as a mother badger.

HK Project

Developer: Koola & Viv
Publisher: TBA
Release date: TBA
Platforms: PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ("maybe"), PC
Genres: Adventure

Love cats and Blade Runner 2049? HK Project is your game. HK Project is an upcoming adventure game where you play as a cat, an ordinary cat with no extraordinary abilities it seems--exploring the busy street in a city of cyberpunk-ed Hong Kong populated by droids; Kowloon Walled City to be precise. Looking at the gifs I can imagine how atmospheric this game would be.

Started in October 2015 by 2 hoomans, Koola & Viv, and 2 cats (No really, they said it themselves). These French developers have spent a lot of time studying about cats and their behavior and put them together in Unreal Engine 4.

There is still no further information about the release date, probably next year or the next due to the team only consists 2 hoomans and 2 cats, and it seems like they are currently hiring.

Seasons After Fall

Developer: Swing Swing Submarine

By using the power to change the seasons, you change the environments drastically, allowing the fox to manipulate its surrounding and make its way through the environments and solving puzzles. Like changing seasons to freeze the waters or to grow the trees and flowers to make your ways. The violin soundtracks really supporting the contrast colourful world.

Lost Ember

Developer: Mooneye Studios
Publisher: Mooneye Studios
Release Date: 2018
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Genres: Action, Adventure, Indie

Lost Ember, a story-driven exploration adventure game where you play as a wolf with the power to inhabit and control other animals, in order to venturing through various environments, such as slip into the role of a fish to dive into the depth of waters, fly high as a bird, climb steep cliffs as a mountain goat, dig tunnels as a mole, and more.

Despite of the ability to be another animals, the main protagonist here is still a wolf accompanied with a trustworthy companion. Where do we venturing exactly? What story and secrets will we uncover? Story and secrets in a ruined world nature has reclaimed from mankind. Sounds a little bit dark for a game with "breathtakingly beautiful world" in its description.

Untitled Game About Being an Asshole Goose

Developer: House House
Publisher: TBA
Release Date: 2018
Platforms: TBA
Genres:
 Sandbox, Indie, Stealth(?)

"It's a lovely weekday morning in the village and you are a horrible goose."

Open up the game's official site and that's what will you see in the front page. From the developer of Push Me Pull You, this upcoming game dubbed "Untitled Goose Game" will let you play as a goose, a terrorizing-havoc wreaking-stealthy-asshole goose.

In this game you are to solve puzzles in order to non other than to cause mischief upon a poor old man in his small lovely farm. Stealing and breaking stuff, honking like a bastard, running around with loud music like an asshole. Also the star here, the goose, is not a mere goose that troll with random folk as the goose has a neat organized to-do list. Moral in this: Never teach a goose how to read and write.

Did I say stealthy? Yes because this untitled goose game is a stealth puzzle game, you know. Well, perhaps not directly labelled as "stealth" game, but the gameplay is stealthy. Despite being an asshole, the goose is somewhat.. Likeable. Finally, it's almost here, a game we can relate to.

Fun fact:
Did you know that Crash was planned to be named "Willy the Wombat"? Out of the several planned names including "Wez", "Wuzzles", and "Wizzy", "Crash" was decided due to the character tendency to smash crates in teh game and changed into a bandicoot because "Crash the Wombat" just don't sound right.

...Crash the Wombat.
