X018: What’s next for Xbox?

At this year's Xbox FanFest event in Mexico City, a slew of new announcements were made that showcased what is to come in 2019. Announcements included 16 new Xbox Game Pass games, new information on Crackdown 3, as well as backwards compatibility. With even more information being announced in the coming months, Xbox fans can look forward to some great content in 2019.

We are looking at some of the big reveals from the event but for more information on everything that was shown at X018, make sure to have a look at the video below.

Crackdown 3

Microsoft has given the public a look at Crackdown 3's multiplayer arena - Wrecking Zone - where players will be competing in five versus five match-ups and in a completely destructible map. In this mode, players will be able to destroy anything around them in order to get the upper hand against their opponents. Crackdown 3 is scheduled for release February 15, 2019 and will be available from launch on Xbox Game Pass.

Kingdom Hearts 3

With the January 29, 2019 release date coming up, Square Enix has revealed a new trailer for the crossover franchise. In the trailer, honey loving Winnie the Pooh makes an appearance, we see more of Organisation XIII, and we get a look at extra footage of the new worlds coming in Kingdom Hearts 3.

Executive Producer, Shinji Hashimoyo also revealed that the home of Winnie the Pooh, the Hundred Acre Woods, will feature mini-games like past games in the franchise but says that players will also be able to interact with Pooh and his pals.

Backwards Compatibility

Along with the announcements made about the new games coming to Xbox, there are also several games coming to the Xbox One through backwards compatibility.

To coincide with Crackdown 3's release, Crackdown 1 will be free and available to download from today and up until November 30. For Final Fantasy fans, Final Fantasy 13, 13-2, and Lightning Returns will be available to play next week. It was also announced that Final Fantasy 7, 9, 10, 10-2, and 12 are coming to the platform next year.

Xbox Game Pass

There are 16 games coming to Game Pass and PlayerUnkown's Battlegrounds is scheduled for release next week. PUBG will arrive on November 12 and other titles will follow leading up to the holidays.

Forza Horizon 4

The first expansion for the game, 'Fortune Island', will be released on December 13 for Xbox and Windows 10. Set in the British Isles, players will race during lightning storms and under the beauty of the aurora borealis in a brand new area.

Five new GymkhanaTEN vehicles will also be available over the next few months - with the first few cars already being released: the 1977 Ford GymkhanaTEN, F-150 Hoonitruck, and the 1993 Ford Escort Cosworth Group A.

Introducing Two New Studios

Microsoft Studios has welcomed both inXile Entertainment (creator behind the Wasteland series) and Obsidian Entertainment (creators behind Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Pillars of Eternity) to help not only on existing projects but new ones as well. With an impressive catalogue of games, both studios will bring a great deal of knowledge and expertise to Microsoft Studios.

Giving Back: #GiveWithXbox


During the event, Head of Xbox Phil Spenser said that "gaming brings people together". In line with this Microsoft revealed that from now to December 9, Xbox fans will be encouraged to post photos on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram with the hashtag #GiveWithXbox. For every tagged photo, Xbox will be donating US$5 worth of Xbox products and services. With the chance to donate up to $1 million, Xbox will be distributing the donation between four different charities: Child's Play, Gamers Outreach, Operation Supply Drop, and SpecialEffect.

2019 is looking like a promising year for Xbox, especially with the many announcements made at today's event.
