Life is Feudal: MMO Preview - Extensive game in a fun dynamic world

Try to imagine that we should live again with all the conveniences of today, just as we did a thousand years ago. No Netflix & Chill, but hunting and fishing. No smartphones with GPS, just walk around and find your camp again with the aid of the sun. Does not seem that easy, does it? Bitbox comes with Life is Feudal: MMO, after Life is Feudal: Your Own, good in the neighborhood. But is it so nice to live as hardcore as before?

Extensive character customization

Personally, I think it is too much of a good thing. As a fan of survival games such as Rust and Ark, LiF: MMO seemed very interesting. It starts very well. Unlike previously mentioned games you first create your own character, where you have a choice of 3 different varieties. First you have the Gottlungs, which are reminiscent of Western Europeans. Secondly there are the Slavard, who with their beards and long hair look a lot like noordelingen. Finally, there are the Khoors, who look a lot like southeast Asian people. After choosing, there will be enough options to make your character your own, although it was difficult to make something attractive. I myself got some flashbacks to TES IV: Oblivion, where mothers make the most beautiful is also a tough task.

You will then get some nice options to further develop your character. What kind of tricks does he get? Is he strong or yet more the smart type? You also have differences in starting stages per race. Each race has a number of extra points in a certain skill. These are fortunately fairly distributed, so that not one of the varieties has immediate benefits.

Woody and slow

The gameplay is in my opinion very stiff. For example, when fighting you can hit from one direction, so you first move your mouse upwards to give a blow from below. A nice addition, but it does not go smoothly. Performing actions just does not work at all. Before you do something, there are often three or four clicks in advance, which does not really make the game fluent. What also takes too much time, is that (almost) every action is a loading bar. Take your shovel instead of your saw? Wait a minute. Still need your hammer? Patience. The result of some actions is sometimes very disappointing, which also reduces the bit of realism. In my playing session, I sometimes needed seven to eight attempts before I could cut a piece of wood properly. Cutting down a tree? Too bad, just try it again five times. This makes collecting your first items a very annoying, rather long gravel, which I do not feel like at the beginning of a game. If you end up spending longer to collect items to make better gear, I think it's fine, but from almost the first moment, as long as I'm busy collecting, my motivation to play gets lost.

Playing together

There is a lot of encouragement to play LiF: MMO with multiple people, either with friends or with strangers you meet. You can share the costs of certain things, hunt together and share food, but you can completely ignore each other. If you eventually want to claim a large piece of land and compete with other guilds, it is of course advisable to look for a few comrades.

In my opinion cool and important element is the dynamic and living island. The country can be adjusted to your own taste, which is also called 'terraforming' (also an in-game skill). The island is made up of planes that all have a certain value. By means of a shovel you can remove (w) earth, causing the (w) earth to drop. If you want to have it up you just throw some soil. So you can dig tunnels and valleys or build hills / mountains, so that the country can be different by server.

Pay2Win?

All in all, with a few things, it is a great game. It must of course also come true, so hopefully here and there are still tinkered. One of the points that they can get straight out of the game is the payment system. The game contains an in-game shop where you can buy stuff for real money. This way you can skip the long starting line by depositing two or three euros for some beginners tools. If you want to send an extra character to the large MMO island, ten euros can be deposited on top of what you paid for the game. The slightly pay2win model that is used here makes me like the fun of such a game.

Conclusion

Life is Feudal: MMO has very strong points. They set up an extensive game in a fun dynamic world, but because of the long gravel, enough people will be eagerly awaiting it. With all the controversy surrounding the pay2win model in games, it is not a handy move to implement this. Life is Feudal: MMO is fun for the fans of Life is Feudal: Your Own and the hardcore survival sims, but less interesting for the gamer who does not like hours-long grinds.

There are some really funny "let's play" videos of this game. Trolling in this game seems to be the funnest thing about it. I like that you can try to find and build stuff solo and enjoy a more difficult gameplay experience, or you can join a community and get a quick start and some protection from others. This game looks like a ton of fun to play with voice chat and a group of friends. Thanks sharing this post.

I play it because it is hard. Easy games are boring. As a residential security expert and physical security student, I love the defense in depth and fortification building within the game too. Building good defenses actually matters. You have to understand angles of fire, maximizing positions of fire, keeping wall lengths shorter but not too short, etc. Who do you play with?
