Far Cry 5 Preview- discover the world yourself

We saw a lot more and we got a comprehensive look at what this game has to offer, including the cooperative experience. We were able to do almost what we wanted. While there were characters present, like Mary May Fairgrave, to provide us with narrative missions.

At least, the latter is actually not entirely true. Just like in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands , our job is to disable individual cult leaders. To do that, each must "piss off" (as Ubisoft put it), forcing them to look for us and meet them one-on-one. Of course the narrative missions help to achieve this, but it's all about boosting a "resistance" bar while setting up a counterattack by completing disruptive activities in the game world. For example by killing cult VIPs, blowing up important vehicles and stealing 'loot'. Oh, and there are also strongholds to switch off, which you then turn into shelters for your allies.

Once you have made these strongholds "friendly" you gain access to much more content. From gun vendors to side missions, so it pays to take your time in your busy cult-slaying scheme to capture it. In fact, it is only exploring the world where you find these places, so it is also worthwhile to look around and see what can be found there. Ubisoft emphasized that "it is no longer about climbing tower and looking around", but you have to discover the world yourself.

As soon as you deviate from the beaten track, it will not be long before you realize that there is a huge amount of content and the world map will quickly become dotted with icons to visit. Some are more useful than others. For example, fishing does not help to rid Montana of the cult, but talking to residents can do this - they can provide useful information about places to visit and what to see. One of these gave us the location of a stash with usable shoot.

Once again it is enormously impressive how authentic the world feels, as you regularly encounter small events. Like hostages held by the side of the road. You can choose to just ignore this if you can still live with yourself. Of course, like in other Far Cry titles, there is a lot of wild animals and they still love human flesh. In this way we even stalked two hostages once we had disabled their hostage takers, and suddenly a bear whipped one of the two. Montana is a tough world and if it is not the bears then it is those annoying wolves.

It was a colleague of ours who played the E3 demo. We had not played yet, so we entered this part of the game with the expectation that shooting was relatively similar to Ghost Recon: Wildlands . However, that does not appear to be the case. Cult members require a surprising number of bullets, so it does not always occur to simply pop (though that is possible) and to hope that you can shoot enough bullets to survive. Ammunition is also relatively limited to find, so you have to keep yourself supplied by collecting everything you find, including fallen opponents and investing money in your arsenal.

Guns also use significantly different methods and it is therefore important to bring the correct weapon. In a mission, for example, we had to disable enemies who held hostages on a farm and we had to deal with it as quietly as possible because the prisoners caught fire at the least or least. We chose a muted pistol, but had to change tactics quickly as the guest with the flamethrower was wearing extra armor and we could not turn it off with a simple bullet. With a large number of weapons available, from 'sniper rifles' to bows and bows and even baseball bats, there should always be something that suits all playing styles.

As usual, 'medkits' do not grow on trees and your health does not fully regenerate if you get hurt - the game is therefore rather spicy if you constantly endanger yourself. It also does not help that the roads of Hope County are littered with hunted cult members who open fire at the slightest provocation and gunfights can occur regularly if you do not fit. The tone is certainly typical Far Cry in terms of airiness, but that does not mean that you are put to the test.

Just like with other Far Cry games, the story has a serious side, which we got to see during a very interesting mission concerning a "purification". We will not reveal what is happening here, but in this mission we got a glimpse of the working of the cult and one of the key figures, John, as well as the leader of the cult, Joseph. It seems that the interaction between these bosses forms a large part of the main campaign, as well as your urgent hunt for them.

The Co-op concerns the entire game - from the beginning to the end. Whether you want to fish, follow the story or just want to drive around, this is all done together with a friend and it looks very promising at the moment. Unfortunately, the 'build' that we played was quite unfinished and therefore filled with 'bugs', but we could clearly see the potential of the co-op here. One that did us a lot was reminiscent of the open and compelling world that Ghost Recon: Wildlands offers on a comparable.

On closer inspection, Far Cry 5 contains many things the series has become known for, including the open world filled with activities, wild animals and more than enough guns, but there is something that makes it slightly different. The American setting clearly forms a large part of this, but also the emphasis on organic exploration and a much larger world to explore. If all of this works very well in co-op, it will only be nicer.

Thanks for reading, I hope you liked it!
