Hyped for Fire Emblem: Three Houses

There are very few these days that I'm so hyped at to even consider pre-ordering or even buying in the launch window.... Mainly, this is due to the fact that the launch price is pretty steep and you aren't 100% sure that the game will be everything that it is blown up to be... plus, the fact that I have a hefty backlog of games that haven't been played or completed. So, all of those things push me in the direction of the wait until a sale... I think the last games that I bought near launch were last year, FrostPunk and also BattleTech (both on the PC), but since then nothing... despite lots of temptations!
Anyway, today... I finally succumbed. I the Fire Emblem series since the DS days, and it is a series that has lasted even longer than that (almost 3 decades?). Anyway, it's a pretty hardcore turn based tactics and RPG game where the death of your characters is pretty permanent... and there is a lot of development in the relationships between characters. So, definitely things that are right up my alley!
Now, the Fire Emblem series is going to launch on the 27th of July on the more powerful Switch platform... and trailers and preview reviews have started hitting the internet and my feeds. It's sort of hard to hide away from... especially if you are searching for the information! Don't tell me that cut-scene isn't completely awesome!
Now, Fire Emblem: Three Houses has a bit of a new take on many aspects of the Fire Emblem formula. There is a change from the classic paper/scissor/rock mechanic of the battles, but everything still takes place (I think) on a grid for the tactics portion of the game. The RPG section has been quite completely overhauled with the new setting in an Academy location.
You are the new teacher at the Academy, and you take one of the Houses under your wing and leadership for the game.... by setting the study schedule for the week, you are influencing the development of the skills of your charges... and there are dialogue/quest events to further develop and flesh out their relationships and characters. So, there is a heavy interactive RPG aspect to the development of your "units". The skill set and classing seems to be much more open than previous iterations... but this is from viewing and reading the previews, not from personal experience.
Well.. that is all said and done... I put my money down yesterday, and the game is pre-loaded onto my Switch. I just have to wait like a kid before Christmas until the 27th of July... only a few more sleeps to go!
Meanwhile, I can watch the various videos!... I'm trying to stay clear of the preview review ones... I don't want any spoilers... but the official teaser trailers are pretty awesome to drink in! NERD OUT!

I can’t think of any game I’m willing to preorder again. It just never goes well so I tend to stay away from doing so.
Glad you found one to be super hyped about. Never heard of this game it looks interesting. I have two games and it’s starting to look like they will be released in 2020 or later.
What are your two? Cyberpunk is top of the list for me... And phoenix point. But they are on pc, so they can wait a bit...
This game looks cute! I've never played but it looks neat!

Ha, Yes... These Japanese games have a cute style even if they are localised... Weird sometimes, as the are dealing with a war setting...
On my wishlist too. A little worried that this game is going more towards cutesy drawings, hours of boring pointless dialog to click through, and infinite skill tweaking settings that have little or no effect on the game-winning strategies. I'm pretty sure this game will have all of those things, but I prefer being able to jump through the battles to progress the story quicker. Sometimes a Fire Emblem battle takes me more than a day to finish.
Always liked past Fire Emblem games, but there is almost always one or two levels that will set me back for months trying to defeat. By the time I beat those levels with enough luck, I've forgotten my entire class leveling strategies and other hidden steps to avoid to unlock future characters. Keeping track of which conversations and relationships I was building was always a nightmare. Sometimes I prefer a more straightforward approach with only a few characters to worry about.
Advance Wars in some ways is more fun, because the characters are already balanced and never level up. It's more about the placement strategy, choice of army members, and managing funds to crank out enough units to survive. Used to spend hours challenging my friend to various battles. Always liked that they let us choose a CO with unique global abilities that could add a fun wildcard to the battles, a bit like playing Risk.
Glad I won't be gridlocked in this game worrying about permadeath issues changing the story for the rest of the game. Nothing I hated more than having to hit the restart button and reload the game, hoping I don't get to the end of the level and run into another surprise hit kills that weakest party character.
I think you can skip all of that stuff if you want... at least that is what all the pre-reviews say... I'm pretty hopeful that these things will add depth to the characters and story!
I was an RPG fanatic back then. I don't know why I didn't get a chance to play this. Maybe I got too hooked on the final fantasy series. Will be on my list when I can play again.
Final Fantasy is a bit different in gameplay to this.... this is more a tactical game along the lines of Advance Wars... or something like that!
