Chibi Fighters - My Chibi Story
I have been an avid gamer for as long as I can remember. One christmas in the 80’s my parents bought us kids a Nintendo (NES), ever since then video games has been a constant source of entertainment for me. Although lately I have been losing interest in gaming, that is until a few months ago. It was then that I first came across blockchain gaming and recognized the untapped potential.
Chibi Fighters is a perfect example of how games can be enhanced using blockchain technology. Chibi Fighters, (CF for short henceforth); CF in its current beta form is a simple web-based arena fighting game. Players from across the globe can send their warriors into the ring to battle for experience points, bragging rights, glory and crypto riches. What makes CF special is that each fighter is a unique tokenized digital asset residing in the Ethereum blockchain.
Ethereum is the most popular and widely used blockchain network, second only to Bitcoin in terms of market capitalization. Possessing tokenized assets in your Ethereum wallet gives you exclusive digital ownership of those assets, they can be bought, sold, traded, gifted or simply collected and held forever. The same goes for Chibi Fighters, once you get one it is yours forever, and you have full ownership and control over it.
I bought my first Chibi about a month ago on OpenSea.io for about 0.015 Ether (roughly $7 at the time) and have been battling him everyday since then. Currently the battles are very simple, you select a sequence of attacks and send him/her in, your selections are compared to your opponent’s and a winner is decided. The spoils differ from battle to battle depending what the starting wager was, this can be game coins, which are easy to acquire through mini-games, or cryptocurrency backed “Eth-Shards” Players are able to exchange shards for Ether, and vice-versa, through the CF website. The dynamic of using shards is much like using chips at a casino and adds to the fun of CF by increasing the risk/reward of battle.
If you have at least one fighter already then getting more is quite easy and inexpensive. The CF website also has a section called the “Fusion Lab” where new fighters can be created for as little as 0.01 Eth (~$4.50). In the Fusion Lab, your fighter can give a genetic sample to be fused with that of another fighter, thus creating a new baby Chibi with a mix of DNA. Having multiple fighters is not necessary, but it is helpful. I now have 3 Chibi’s, one of them I use for battling while the other two go on “adventure missions” On their adventures Chibi’s scavenge the land of CF for coins, experience and various other game items. On one adventure my little Chibi band came back with an Eth-Crystal, which is worth 0.002 Eth (~$1) if sold or can be broken into shards to wager on battles. I kept it, because I am more of the collector type of player.
Keep in mind that CF is still in beta and there is a lot more planned. I hopped on CF’s discord server to ask GarryPlays, the lead developer, a few questions. I love discord and how accessible game development teams are becoming. Here is just one of Garry’s responses to my many questions:
We are kind of developing in all sorts of directions. The current battles will remain as a base. There will be weekly tournaments (live battles only) and seasons will be tested with unlimited battles next (same format, 1 Chibi)
These battles are for real ether after all, I am not sure if people understand that fully...
That being said, there will be more modes, we will have a roleplay module at some point, but that is a whole other pot of work that needs to be done first
but you can already level your Chibi and add attribute points.
[Modes] that offers Chibi fights that are not rock, paper scissors. Chibis might even have a skill or two. then you can have little PVP fights, after that I can imagine Team Battles (since Chibis can be damage dealer, healer, or tanks etc.) plain 1:1 is not very appealing for some.
they will also involve ether, just like any fight you see on tv, you can bet on your Chibi.
this is currently in dev, so I can't say too much yet really
Weapons will also be ERC721, so you can trade them. I would like to make it possible to level weapons, too. and lend them to players. That way people with a lot of time or money can create amazing weapons. And players that don't have much time or money can lend them. Which I can see might be pretty awesome, maybe not, hard to tell.
Hey, not to brag =) but those “seasons” Garry mentioned; that first Chibi that I bought managed to come in 3rd place for coin battles. So I scored myself a “Legendary Shard” which I will be able to cash in for a legendary weapon in the near future. I am really looking forward to what is to come for CF, as it is I am already playing it way too much, even on my phone. Yes it works great on mobile.
