[First Impression] Moon Hunters

in #gaming7 years ago

Moon Hunters is a Co-op 2D action RPG with expressive pixel art, cool character design and a "personality test" story with multiple endings.

Moon Hunters is an action RPG with a short story that changes every campaign depending on choices and randomly generated levels. The game supports Co-op play for up to 4 players but I played the game solo so this First Impression article won't touch on the Co-op aspect of the game.

After the Moon didn't rise on the night of feast in which she's supposed to be full. The story follows members of the tribe of the Moon and their struggle with the tyrants of the Sun who're fighting to replace the old traditions with their "new age." Moon Hunters story follows the last five days before the Sun regime's war to control the land, and if they prevail or lose against the players.

These five days are represented in an hour long campaign that ends with fighting a boss. Getting all the endings and choosing most of the options require multiple playthroughs.

Each day you can explore the land or visit a city then spend the rest of the day there.

When you go to explore a land you'll get a randomly generated 'Dungeon' with monsters and occasional characters to interact with. You can get Opal (in-game money) and items there. Sometimes you'll find a merchant that sells abilities and items. Other times you'll find people of the Sun might fight you.

You make a camp after exploring and you can decide how to spend the night, with options like cooking, hunting and star gazing. Each option increases a certain stat in your character.

Each player character have traits that allows him to choose different options when talking to people. One time a woman ignored my character because I wasn't "Proud" enough to join the conversation.

Moon Hunters is visually and musically attractive. I love the folk-song-like soundtrack of the game. The art in the game looks amazing. I love both the pixel art in the field and the character art in the cutscenes. The sprites are the same size and as expressive as Hyper Light Drifter's. Every action in the battle or outside of it feels unique.

The environment's pixel art is breathtaking, and left me wondering if the dungeons are really randomly generated. The art in the cutscenes and when talking to characters is great. I love how the developers gave NPCs and animals a "close-up" look. While think this art clashes a bit with the pixel art of the field, I don't mind it very much.

In my First Impressions run, I played two campaigns. I fought the king of Sun in both of them and lost. I got the ending in which Evil wins. The narrator voice hit the point as she sadly stated how the world changed when the Sun Cult won. I could feel her sadness in her tone!

I played as a Fighter in the first campaign and a Mage in the second one. I felt more comfortable playing as a Mage and was stronger overall even though I usually prefer melee type characters in other games. I noticed that some characters are stronger against certain enemies, but I got more power-ups in my second playthrough so maybe that's the reason for it.

So my First Impression run left me wanting more and I'm excited to know what happens when I beat the final boss. Since my two runs were different I wonder how much content is left for me to see.

My Experience on DGameMarket

I bought Moon Hunters from @dgameshop's DGameMarket using #Battle token (thanks @battlegames for providing the money.) They accept STEEM, SBD & BATTLE as payment methods. I bought few games from them before and sold some keys (when my @ahmadgamelist was a thing.) So I know they're a trusted site! Currently the selection isn't great and there aren't many active buyers but people will sell more games if you bought from them.

If you have unused Steam keys you can sell them there too~

Did I mention they use female pronouns for the Moon? I always thought it was gender neutral.

Thanks. I really appreciate being in the list.

Awesome stuff, being able to buy games with BATTLE is a cool option.

Yeah, I think so too... Since there aren't many buyers the selection isn't great right now, but if people bought and wrote posts like this I'm sure more people will start to sell there.
