Mortal Kombat X

Welcome back fellow Steemians, it's that time of the week again, time for your weekly game review fix.

So right off the bat, I want complete transparency, I have never been big on fighting games. The reason I'm not that crazy about them is mainly because I don't feel that there is enough to do, it's basically just beating you opponent over and over again. This however is why I would never buy a fighting game, but I especially borrowed this from a friend to give it a go and write this review.

My own personal history with Mortal Kombat does actually go back a long, very long time. I recall when I was still a young lad going to the arcade to go play games, this was long before things like PC gaming and consoles. Almost in every town or city you would find a games arcade, with massive amounts of different games to play, most of them 8bit and then later on, 16bit and 32bit, if I remember correctly. Mortal Kombat was one of the first ever fighting games and what set it apart and also what made it such a fan favorite was the utter brutality. Each character had his or her very own Fatality, and these would range from cutting the opponents head off or setting them on fire. The game was pretty violent, and it hasn't changed much over time, so definitely not for for younger gamers.

Our story takes place about two years after the defeat of Shao Kahn. Shinnok, a disgraced former Elder God who was imprisoned in the eternally-damned Netherealm, attacks Earthrealm with his army of Netherrealm demons, as well as the some of the Earthrealm warriors. After fighting their fallen comrades, a team led by the infamous Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, and Kenshi open a portal to Raiden's Sky Temple and head to the mystical Jinsei Chamber, the source of Earthrealm's life force. When they arrive, they find Raiden and Fujin battling Shinnok and his massive Netherrealm forces.

When Shinnok attempts to kill Sonya Blade, luckily Johnny is there to defend her, but then accidentally ends up awakening an ancient superhuman power within himself. Using his newfound powers, Johnny can now hold Shinnok at bay, just long enough for Raiden to steal Shinnok's amulet and imprison him inside it. During the intense battle Quan Chi escapes, but Johnny, Raiden, and Sonya track him to his lair in the Netherrealm and defeat him, successfully restoring Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Jax to human form in the process.

Unfortunately the story as with most of this series makes absolutely no sense to me, for one I never followed the story across all the different games. The other main thing is, this is not so much about story, it's about the fighting.

Mortal Kombat is fun, whether you are playing alone against the computer or you have some friends over to join in, there's always something satisfying about beating up your opponent.

This is in my opinion the best game in the entire series so far, and I think I have played almost every one of the games since the first one came out in 1992. It’s deeper, mechanically much richer, and has way more features than any of the nine games that came before it. Then on top of that the developers have also introduced eight entirely new characters to the roster of 24 available characters. There are also two add-on DLC's that can be downloaded with even more characters to play with, including some familiar faces for the big screen, like the Alien and the Predator as well as Jason Voorhees and Leatherface. Most of these extra characters are all villains from the more horror genre and darker Science fiction films, but really awesome to be playing with them. You can also just rather get Mortal Kombat XL which was released about a year after this, which has all the add-ons and extra content. Most importantly you have the ability to choose between three different versions of every character, but that then means there is just way more to learn before being able to master a character.

This is by far the smoothest-playing Mortal Kombat to date, and if you like these kinds of games you probably already have this.

One of the fun parts of this game is the slow motion X-ray moves, which is a special move that shows you what happens either to your own character or the opponent internally, like the breaking of the legs or crushing the skull. Yes, this game it not for the squeamish, and the developers have gone all out with the most creative ways possible of ending your opponent with fatalities. When it comes to the story, there's not really much there, I felt seriously lost, there is a story mode which takes you about 4 to 6 hours, but this is a fighting game after all. What I did love was the Krypt and you keep going back there, because that's where you can unlock MKX’s humorously massive selection of costumes, finishers, and loads of lore.

So as I mentioned from the beginning, these kinds of games are just not my thing, and I was pretty much done with playing it after a few days. When I compare this to Injustice, I would probably side more towards the super hero vibe, just because I'm personally more into that. This is a great fighting game and if you're into this you will totally love it.

Mortal Kombat X is a fighting video game and is developed by kind of nice people NetherRealm Studios, not sure how nice they are, if you look at what they are coming up with.

They are responsible for the 2011 Mortal Kombat as well as the new DC universe fighting series Injustice: Gods Among Us. The Mortal Kombat intellectual property was originally owned by Midway Games, but they filed for bankruptcy in 2009, and that's how NetherRealm Studios came into being. Published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment who cover most of the DC universe games, this game also runs on the Unreal Engine 3 game engine. Mortal Kombat X was released on April 14, 2015 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. NetherRealm studio's mobile team developed a version for iOS and Android devices. High Voltage Software developed the PC version of the game, with Polish studio QLoc taking over the work on it shortly after the release of Kombat Pack 1.

This game has some miles on it so you will definitely be able to pick this up for dirt cheap, especially now leading up to Christmas season.

I give Mortal Kombat X a rating of 6/10

In Mortal Kombat there is something unifying that makes it universally understandable for those who are eighteen and those who are twice as many-despite the fact that their acquaintance with the series took place in different ways. Some were born before the mid-nineties, found slot machines with the very first Mortal Kombat, wrote out long (otherwise then it was impossible) combinations of fatalities from magazines, and when there were no magazines — pressed all the buttons in a row, in the hope that you get a super hit. The second until 2011 at best did not know the series at all and at worst — caught her in agony.
Those and others have joined the Mortal Kombat 9 — daring, spectacular, light (in terms of ease of development and the relationship to itself), free from the mistakes of the past and pumped up the intoxicating atmosphere of the hall of slot machines. It is strange to speak in the context of childhood about the game, where people tear the spine and cut off the face, but it is about childhood remember many reviewers, and for good reason: Mortal Kombat is the same game "ninja" and "war", where the blood and guts are already as real, but the pain and death — still pretend.

Mortal Kombat has always been one of my best game and I still play it till now. It is always fun for me playing mortal kombat. I usually face computer but I always preferred to face my friends in order to challenge them. Because they always boast to play it much more better than I. It was always fun for me playing mortal kombat anytime in my playstation

Mortal combat was always our best game to play while we were growing up as kids, we played it various version of consoles such as P.C, SEGA, xbox and other types of console. We loved to play the fighting game because of the adventure, fun and each deadly skills the players or character possess .

My favorite character were, Liu keng, because of his triple kicks and fire that comes out from his hands.

Jag was another character a blow from his left iron hand does a lot of damage than any other character, Sonia can never be forgotten too.

I havent played the mortal combat X, but with your review, i will try it out and see if there are any new futures and improvements that could make me want to play it again, otherwise i give up

Thanks for sharing.

Mortal Kombat X is undoubtedly the best fighting game of the new-gen, the graphics are superb and the fluidity is exemplary (very important for a fighting game), and most importantly, the gameplay is perfect! both accessible and technical, slightly more dynamic than that of Mortal Kombat 9, it offers a real feeling of progress. The only weak point of the game is that I feel that match-making online is not done by level, that is to say that a beginner can be faced with a pro and have almost no chance to win, but the game is still excellent!

Ohhhh, this extremely lovely. You've just reminded of does days when I usually play Mortal Kombat on SEGA and it was lovely especially the fatality aspects but if you could recall not everyone was able to do does special skills due to it has a special assigned button and so on. I could still remember when I normally use liu kang because of his bicycle kick and so on.
I had played this on PlayStation 3 but it wasn't enjoyable due to what you said, it has to do with just fight and fight for rounds which doesn't seems catchy but I had Mortal Kombat had this mission episode but I'm still trying to find it out and if that's true then, it's a must game to play.

I admire people who can spend hours playing this type of game and enjoy it. I have never practiced it and I am curious to know how much fun there can be, I know that it can be played between friends or only with the computer. I imagine that more adrenaline is produced when playing between humans, when it becomes clear the competition to reach a goal or win a fight. Very good publication, @morkrock.

Excellent summary, @MorkRock and better yet, you made it clear what kind of audience this game is for and your opinion about it. I once read a study that was done on a group of 13-18 year olds who played this kind of violent games and that study showed that many of those kids were draining energy through those fictional games. But on the other hand, it also came to the conclusion that just as they appeased energy, it could also create adrenaline addiction, which could lead to a time when his own body would ask for more action and reality. I think in past comments, I told you how unfamiliar I am with this kind of games, but there are some that are really interesting. Thanks for this post to you and @adsactly

I love playing Mortal kombat and I really enjoy it anytime I play it. No one can say mortal kombat is not a fun. Both the young, children and adult played it and it is really fun playing it. I always like to face my friends I mean challenge them when playing mortal kombat because it always add more additional fun to it
