The UGLIEST NaNoWriMo win - EVERsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #funny8 years ago

With burning wrists and tired brain I made a desperate dash to get to 50,000 words...

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

I have to admit that I am not celebrating right now. In fact, typing this post really hurts. I've literally spent the last 3+ days in a herculean effort to get my winner's banner.

This is a screenshot of my WriMo stats.

See all the days where there is NO upward movement?
Yeah, those were days I didn't write in my WriMo novel.

Do you know where I was?

HERE...on Steemit

What can I say? I have a problem. Probably a super bad Steemit addiction.
I may, in fact, need an intervention.

Literally HALF of the attempt on my novel was accomplished in the last 4 days! That is an average of about 5300 words a day crammed into a very short time frame.

How is that possible?

I could tell you that I type really fast, but the truth is I average about 70 wpm. I was probably typing closer to 80 wpm at my peak today but

  • Grammar stopped being an issue
  • I stopped caring about spelling
  • Proper quotes, italics, and paragraphs disappeared
  • Editing? Are you fekkin' kidding me?
  • Actually, I think plot fell in the shitter with editing. LOL

But if there is one thing I'm good at, it's writing love scenes - and boy, did I!
Sweet love scenes, graphic sex, and practically pornography.

If I wasn't writing hot, steamy sex scenes, I was writing a break up scene or some terrible conflict. Perfect! That segued into more make-up sex!

I tell ya, it was a vicious cycle.
So, not only am I wired from the overdose of coffee and still awake at 2:30 AM with aching wrists feeding my Steemit addiction - I currently have a terrible craving to pick a fight with my husband then rip his clothes off and have my way with him.

Is it any wonder that he runs when I say I need a little help with - uh... research?

Needless to say, it's a white hot mess.

My book is a white hot mess, silly!

Get your mind out of the gutter.

Anyway - at some point tomorrow I'll be back to commenting, curating and content creating. And once I clean up the rough, rough draft I'll post more chapters of Her Leading Man - a romance fiction. Right now, I need to shut down and give my wrists a break. I feel like I've had about a 96-hour workout!

Get out of here! Go do something productive.

You in the middle of the month:

Indeed!
It needs a steemit logo and say Steem time. That would definitely be more accurate ;)

Thats awesome so glad you completed it in time! Congratulations! 🎉🎊🎈
Im as bad as you though, at being addicted to Steemit ! Lol ! Its too bad I have to Eat , Sleep , and Work or I would be on here 24/7 ! Hahaha! 😉👍Get some rest and Steem On tomorrow! Good Night! ♨😴😪♨

I had 5 minutes to spare. It was ridiculous! I should know better than to torture myself like that.
It's two years in a row that I've done two 15K words written in a day, two years in a row. I had the best of intentions to pace myself this year and it went down the crapper. LOL

Oh! Eating... that's what I forgot to do yesterday! I think I snacked on crackers and coffee. Coffee is a food group, right?

Haha! I sure hope coffee's a food group ! I seem to eat alot of it these days! Lol! Hopefully you can rest your fingers now that its done! Step Away From The Computer ! Lol ! ♨😉👍♨

But.... Steemit. LOL

ugly don't matter - win matters.

Well done you!

That's what my husband says. ROFL

Well done! Awesome achievement!
I've never completed a NaNo, so I know how difficult it is.

Don't worry about editing... you can edit an empty page ;)

Wow, I'm so impressed <3

Thank you, Michelle! We're gonna have to get you motivated. We've got until next November to get trained and chugging along.
Now to organize the mess and start posting chapters for posterity! ;)

Never mind 'for posterity' - get those chapters edited, organised and published!

<3

I'm not sure I have the patience for NaNo... I've started and not finished more than one :D

Well done mere, Go sleep, tear hubbies clothes off or whatever it takes to reclaim your sanity.

I still hadn't fallen asleep until about 3ish! My clock is all screwed up and was content to snuggle with my man. Oh, and if you find sanity, let her know that I've found a new friend "Abbie Normal". LOL

I've been looking for those two for years, I think they are an urban legend.

Congratulations on the achievement.
Have a good rest. :-)

Thank you so much, @ace108
I was surprised by how many comments I'd gotten so here I am -- feeding the Steemit addiction again. My wrists are still burning a bit. :oP

You're welcome. We all need to be fed. :-)

That's ... wow! With everything that you've been posting this past month, it's amazing that you made it to 50k, and on the very last day! One might argue that your last-day sprint is even more impressive! I'm at awe, really, can't you tell from all my exclamation points?!

Seriously though, every NaNo progress chart is a unique work of art, so be proud of yours. Celebrate! You made it, @merej99! :D That's what, almost 20k on the last day? Heck, I will never be able to do that even if I had a gun to my head.

I passed 50k a few days before the final day, but I finished the whole story on the last day. My graph won't show it, but it was a very difficult journey for me as well. Not 20k-in-one-day difficult, but still, it was a different kind of beast. Here's mine, since I won't be making a post about my experience, just for posterity:

Oops, I spoiled the title haha Hoping to post it on Steemit soon.

Now, relax, and relish your victory! :)

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WIN @jedau
Well Done!
That last sprint does look impressive but maybe I should adjust the numbers a bit. A lot of those huge jumps were written between midnight and 3 AM the previous night. About 6K words should be attributed to November 29.

After a good night's rest, I think the most I've actually cranked out was just a hair over 15K in a day. I've done it before between last year's WriMo, transcription deadlines and blogging so I was pretty confident it could be done - but it is definitely punishing. I'm feeling the physical effects today. :(

Still, a win's a win. Take the day to rest and recuperate, it's been a tough battle. 15K in a day is still very impressive. As evidenced from my own experience, the most I could accomplish in a day was less than 5k haha

Congratulations on reaching your goal! :) :) :)

Thank you so much! It still hurts to type but I can't seem to help myself :D

Congratulations on another great achievement my great friend @ merej99.
He who firmly intends to meet certain goals can do it and you are one of those people.
To continue their successes.

Thank you @jlufer - determination was there but this time I really pushed it and other things fell by the wayside. I really need to do better and stop pushing the envelope so far. I almost didn't make it and that will hopefully teach me a lesson for next year's attempt.
