The school headmaster T.V. denies the allegations that the student has to crawl. According to her the student uses knees to climb the stairs.
Lahti training and education manager L.K. thinks the incident is peculiar.

Jouti purkuun tuo paska näköjään muistakin syistä kuin sisäilmaongelmiensa takia. Ei edes hissiä liikuntaesteisille. Ei tuollaiselle voi kuin nauraa.
Kyseistä tapausta en tunne mutta se on jännää kuinka vähän sisäilmaongelmista välitetään välillä vaikka sitä löytyyki kaikkialta... Ja kuulosti kyllä hieman huonommalta koulu rakennukselta tuo
Tiirismaan koulu mätäni tietääkseni kattovuotojen takia. En muista oliko tässä koulussa käynyt näin mutta nykyisen Lahden kaupungin alueella Nastolan Uudessakylässä sijaitsevan Männistön koulun yksi siipi on pilalla perustuksiin unohtuneiden muottilautojen takia. Laudat olivat 40 vuotta märkää maaperää vasten ja tietenkin lahosivat. Perustuksissa on oikein kunnon mikrobikasvustot. Männistön koulu oli yläaste, joka on nyt lakkautettu ja oppilaat on siirretty osin Kukkasen koulun (toinen yläaste noin 5 km lännempänä) tyhjiin luokkiin ja parakkeihin pihalle. Lisäksi Nastolasta on lakkautettu useita alakouluja. Yhdessä, jossa vaimoni oli töissä lukuvuoden 2013-2014, löytyi seinästä sädesientä. Osa opettajista ja oppilaista oirehti tämän takia. Tässä 1950-luvulla rakennetussa Kanervan koulussa saattoi olla alunperinkin puutteelliset tai ajan myötä tukkoon menneet salaojat.
Sisäilmaongelmat kouluissa ovat niin yleisiä, että juuri siksi niistä välitetään niin vähän. Korjausvelka on niin suuri, ettei yhteiskunnalla ole kovin nopeasti mahdollisuuksia hoitaa sitä.
Kaikkein pahinta on, että ongelmia on joissakin uusissakin kouluissa. Esimerkiksi Hollolassa ilmeni muutaman vuoden vanhassa koulussa yhdessä luokassa sisäilmaongelma. Kyse oli joistakin rakennusteknisistä ongelmista perustuksissa. Lisäksi pinnoitemateriaaleja asennetaan liian usein märälle betonille, mistä voi seurata liimojen kanssa reaktioita, joissa syntyy haitallisia kaasumaisia orgaanisia yhdeisteitä. Lisäksi esim. lämpöeristeiden sateelta suojaamiseen ei kiinnitetä työmailla riittävästi huomiota. Kiire ja pyrkimys alimpiin mahdollisiin urakkahintoihin johtavat tähän. Mielestäni tähän ongelmaan ei auttaisi muu kuin kiristää rakennusvalvontaa huomattavasti ja lisätä resursseja siihen, jotta kaikille rakennusalan toimijoille saataisiin selkeät ja tiukasti valvotut säännöt, joiden puitteissa toimia. Tiedä vaikka digitalisaatiosta ja lohkoketjuista voisi olla jotain hyötyä rakentamisen laadun parantamisessa.
Koulussa jossa kävin yläasteen, ei ollut hissiä. Siihen aikaan liikuntaesteisille ilmoitettiin etukäteen jos koulussa ei ollut hissejä, niin että voivat mennä sellaiseen kouluun jossa on hissit. Nykyään toki on eri meininki, eli koulut suunnitellaan aina sen heikoimman ehdoilla, että jokainen voisi hakea siihen kouluun mihin haluaa. Siitä en sitten tiedä onko se aina ihan hyvä juttu, mutta eipä sitä kai muutakaan voi.
Yläaste määräytyy kunnallisessa koululaitoksessa oppilaaksiottoalueen eli asuinpaikan mukaan. Koulut ja kaikki muutkin isot julkiset rakennukset voi ihan hyvin suunnitella esteettömiksi eli rakentaa niihin rampit pääsisäänkäynteihin ja ainakin yksi hissi. Jonkinlainen tavarahissi isoissa julkisissa rakennuksissa on joka tapauksessa hyvä olla raskaiden esineiden, rakennustarvikkeiden yms. siirtämistä varten. Tällaista hissiä voivat pyörätuolilla liikkujatkin käyttää. Lisäksi ei ole kohtuutonta rakentaa vähintään yhtä vessaa sellaiseksi, että siellä mahtuu kääntymään pöyrätuolilla. Varsinkin pienemmissä kunnissa koulumatkat voisivat muodostua kohtuuttomiksi, jos liikuntaesteisten olisi mahdotonta käydä paikkakunnan koulua. Yhteiskunnassa on muutenkin otettu huomioon eri tavoilla vammaiset ja vajaakuntoiset ja se on mielestäni ihan hyvä asia, koska kenestä tahansa meistä voi hetkessä tulla sellainen vaikkapa liukastumalla kadulla ja vammautumalla sillä tavalla.
Tottahan tuo toki on, mutta toisaalta mieleen tulee kaiken maailman urheilupainotteiset koulut yms. joissa esteisyydestä on muutakin haittaa opiskelijalle, kuin se ettei voi käyttää portaita.

Well if I knew that someone tells my kids to climb the stairs on the knees, I would break his bones and feed him to crocodiles (Just saying).
You wouldn't even have to break their bones because crocodiles' stomach acids are so strong that they can digest bones. But I guess that is not the reason why you would break their bones in the first place so it doesn't really matter...

Tiirismaa junior high/middle school students are taught in temporary buildings. The city council has been hemming and hawing about what to do. Tiirismaa senior high/upper secondary school operates in a building where the Adult Education Centre used to be. Lahti Design Institute uses a building the city has intended to be used by the upper secondary school. Tiirismaa middle school is planned to use the Adult Education Centre building instead. Lahti Design Institute is supposed to move away from the city centre. I don't know where. But there is also a plan to merge Tiirismaa upper secondary school with Kannas upper secondary school. That could add a little uncertainty to the whole situation.
