Share2Steem Fundition Update 4 : New Scoring System and Changes in the Curation Initiatives

Share2Steem Fundition Update #4

New Scoring System and Changes in the Curation Initiatives

Welcome to the 4th Update of the Share2Steem Campaign powered by @Fundition.
In this post, we will speak about the latest updates made by the Share2Steem team and give a preview of what is to come.
You will also find some statistics, useful links and instructions on how to delegate to us or support the project via our Fundition Campaign.

This post might enter into some technical details, so at the beginning of each part, there will be a little non-technical summary for people who aren't versed in the technical aspects.

New Scoring System

All scores are now calculated on a 7-day rolling period. The scores still define the upvote strength you receive daily from the @share2steem account. The Leaderboard page on the website has been modified to reflect the changes.

The scoring system has been completely rebuilt to correct its flaws and distribute more fairly the Voting Power of the @share2steem account.

All scores are now calculated on a 7-day rolling period, and not on the full account history like it was done before. The goal is to prevent "monopolies" on certain items and distribute the Voting Power more fairly based on users' recent activity.

Each scoring item has been made completely independent with a certain portion of Voting Power dedicated to it. This way when increasing the score of one item, the upvote value given by @share2steem will be increased in proportion. In the previous system, as the score was global, a lot of factors were coming into play when calculating the upvote strength given to a particular user, so increasing the score on a certain item could not lead to the expected increase in upvote strength (as there could have been movement in other items, more daily posts so more VP consumed, ...)

The Leaderboard page on the website has been modified and improved to reflect those changes:

  • The explainations of each item has been made clearer,
  • The absolute score and relative score for every item is now completed by the estimated upvote strength you will receive for this particular item, allowing users to see the impact of their efforts towards improving their specific or overall scoring,
  • A leaderboard is now visible for each item and also for the global score.

The new Scoring System : Each item is now independent with a portion of Voting Power dedicated to it, allowing you to see the estimated Upvote Strength you will receive on your next posts.

You can now see the Leaderboard for each scoring item, allowing you to see your progress in places earned in real time.

Voting Power Allocation

Each scoring item is now independent and has a portion of our daily Voting Power dedicated to it.

As said before, each item is now independent and has a certain portion of Voting Power dedicated to it. Meaning that when you post:

  • We calculate your relative score that we divide by the sum of all relative scores for this item.
  • We multiply that ratio with the Voting Power dedicated to the item.
  • And last we check the VP usage of this item in the last 24 hours to adjust the upvote strength received for this particular item. (Example : Only 3% out of 4% of VP has been distributed these last 24 hours, so the strength you will receive will be multiplied by 1.33 to try and maximize VP usage at all times)

The sum of the upvote strengths calculated for each item will be the upvote strength received from the @share2steem account daily upvote. 1% upvote strength is added to everyone to make sure a minimum value is casted on every post.

The allocation is as follows:

  • 10% of VP is reserved to upvoting at full strength a post made via the @share2steem account,
  • 15% of VP is dedicated to the team score (rewarding team members),
  • 15% of VP is dedicated to the earner score (the beneficiary rewards your posts generated = the fees we've taken on your posts),
  • 20% of VP is dedicated to the delegation score (rewarding delegators). The delegator scoring for upvotes is a bit different than the one used for payouts as there is no bonus for the age of delegation (except that as it's calculated on a 7-day rolling period, so the first 6 days of your delegation, the upvote you will receive will become bigger and bigger until stabilization reflecting the new delegated amount),
  • 10% is dedicated to the affiliates score (rewarding people bringing more users to the application),
  • 3% is dedicated to the comment score,
  • 5% is dedicated to the influence score,
  • 4% is dedicated to the curation trail score,
  • 4% is dedicated to the curation pool score,
  • 6% is dedicated to the upvote score,
  • 3% is dedicated to the resteem score,
  • 5% is dedicated to the regularity score.

All these informations are displayed on the Leaderboard page, with more details concerning the calculations of each scoring item.

Changes in the Curation Initiatives

Each trail is now independent. You'll need to participate in each trail to also receive from it. The trail now works in value, limiting what you receive from the trail to twice what you give to it.

Accompanying these changes concerning the scoring system, hence the upvotes received from the @share2steem account, changes have been made to how the curation initiatives work.

First of all, they have been made independent. Participating in one of both (Trail or Pool) previously gave you access to both. Now, you'll only get access to the one you participate in.

Secondly, the amount you will receive from the trails will now also be based on the 7-day rolling score calculated.

This will impact the amount you receive in two ways:

  • For the Pool, you will receive the portion of the Pool value that is equal to your contribution (the upvotes you made via the pool compared to all upvotes made via the Pool). The multiplying factor will reside in people giving to the Pool in this 7-day period but that don't reclaim their part everyday (by posting through the application).
  • For the trail, you won't be able to receive more than twice what you gave to the trail yourself. Before you potentially received votes from everyone who contributed less to the trail than you (all time). Now, as long as you gave at least half what you receive from the trail in the last 7 days, the full trail will be triggered on your post. This will also allow every user participating (even small accounts) to receive once a week a substantial upvote coming from the trail.

Coming in the next few weeks

1) Change of the Model
This one is a major update that should take one or two weeks to put in place.
To sum it up, Share2Steem will adopt a freemium model : The base service (cross-post from social networks to the Steem blockchain) will be made free (no more fees on your posts), but instead some features, to be used, will require you to give a certain percentage of beneficiary rewards to Share2Steem.

For example (nothing is definitely defined for now, concerning which features will be made premium and which one will be included in the free base service and neither how much will "cost" these premium features), but it should resemble something like that in principle:

  • Activate scoring system and receive upvotes from the @share2steem account : 1%
  • Participate in a curation initiative : 0.5 %
  • Add a customized body to your posts : 0.5 %
  • And so on...

For the advantages:

  • We will stop the fee compensation system, which is very costly for Share2Steem, as fees will now be given on a voluntary basis to use some features and won't be mandatory anymore,
  • It will prevent any competition to try and duplicate the idea as we potentially offer the service for free to everyone,
  • It will increase visibility as people who don't want to use the application because of the fees will now be able to try it out and use it on a regular basis without any fees being taken from their posts,
  • It will fuel development as we will need to offer the best base service possible to attract and retain the maximum number of users hence increasing our visibility, but we will also be pushed to offer the best premium features with the most added value to users so we get some fees from users to cover our expenses and (maybe one day) make profits.

For the disadvantages:

  • APR will surely diminish for delegators, that's why we dedicated a bigger and more stable part of VP to delegators, to compensate this anticipated decrease by an increase in the upvotes received from the Share2Steem account. More revenue streams will also be distributed to delegators (first when the system will be deployed : rewards on @share2steem's posts, that currently weren't distributed back and then other revenue sources depending on the long term business model currently being thought of and prepared development-wise),
  • Sponsors' part on fees will decrease, as for now sponsors get a 4% fee on all their referral's posts. With the new system they will take 25% (number subject to changes) of the fees (but these fees will depend on premium features activated by their referrals).

This change is needed as for now the fee compensation system is operating at a loss for Share2Steem and is in fact a subsidy for delegators and sponsors (We compensate the fees that for most posts goes partly to the sponsors and 80% of the part going to Share2Steem is then distributed to delegators in Daily Payouts). Switching to a freemium model will allow Share2Steem to be sustainable (to stop being at loss). As I just said, revenues for delegators and sponsors might diminish with these changes, that's why the VP dedicated to them has just been greatly increased in this update and also some income streams currently excluded (rewards on @share2steem's posts) will be included in the profits being distributed for the Daily Payouts. Of course, with time, with more users and with more diversified income streams being deployed for Share2Steem, their revenues should, in the long term, be higher than what they currently are.

2) Other Updates

  • More details on votes triggered via the trail (how many were casted, how many arrived, why didn't they arrive - lack of VP, of RCs, etc. - to allow anyone to understand variations in upvotes received via the trails),
  • Translations for the website,
  • VP limit for sponsors' upvotes.

Statistics

We are proud to count 1 826 members.
These members posted 25 409 messages from social networks generating 11 203.57 $ in payouts.

Share2Steem application is ranked #7 in number of posts.

Sort:

To be honest, I see this new system quite complicated, and hard to understand completely. Old system was more simple, and more straightforward
At least I could make some calculations myself, by the given formulas.
Will see how it goes on.
But i do not exclude that I may find a more rewarding areas for SP delegation. There is so many options today, where SP is very appreciated

Hi, the main difference between the old and new system is the period for which the scores are calculated (7-day period in the new system whereas it was calculated on all history in the previous system).
The other changes (allocating VP and such) is more about rebalancing (and the main impact of these changes is to give bigger upvotes to delegators). For the calculations themselves nothing has changed (the formulas) it's just that the sum is made on the last 7 days instead of since signing up on Share2Steem.
After that it's just "eye changes" : estimating an upvote strength, keeping a global leaderboard, but also showing leaderboard for each scoring item...

V. professional, great work guys.

Thanks for your encouragements and support

nice update , will see if it work better by the end of the week .

Most of the little "hiccups" expected have been fixed, staying vigilant to make sure everything goes well and fix any other error that could arise.

I had climbed to #6 on the Leaderboard just before the update. I even passed @algo.coder in the rankings! I was so proud! LMAO

Anyways, I am confident I can climb back into the Top 10 with the new rules.

I couldn't let that happen ! :D
More seriously, as this update has been about rebalancing, the position in the global leaderboard might have changed, but now you can see your score and your position for each scoring item.
See you in the TOP 10 !

Thanks a lot for your support !

This is an interesting development indeed. I am planning some additional delegations soon so may consider coming back to your project as I see project has been made. I was hesitant in the past given the misunderstanding but see some great work here!

Hi, thanks a lot for your support !
Everything is back on track, it took some time as it needed some reorganization etc. but it's now "business-as-usual" again.
Other updates are underway and the old rythm of updates (once a week minimum) should be respected again.

This post has been included in the latest edition of SoS Daily News - a digest of all you need to know about the State of Steem.

Thank you for the mention !

Really informative

Does this service still work? My latest tweet didn't end up on my page.

Hi @shaidon
Service is still working.
If your tweet didn't cross-post it might be because you didn't include the hashtag #share2steem in your tweet (needed for the cross-posting to happen).
If you don't want to be bothered with adding the hashtag on each tweet, you can go to the website https://share2steem.io, go to the Social Networks tab, click on your Twitter account, and at the end of the page, you'll have a "Cross-post method" option, where you can choose between "Cross-post Hashtag" and "Cross-post All", choose "Cross-post All" for all your tweets to be cross-posted (eplies and retweets excluded) without having to add the hashtag.

I did put the hashtag in. I might have been removed from the service for some reason. (I haven't used it in a while).

There's no inactivity deactivation or anything like that, so it must be something else. I got nothing on the server logs error-wise. Looks like your tweet didn't get "seen" on S2S side.
Could you provide me with a link to the tweet that didn't get cross-posted so that I can further investigate this issue ?

Ok, it's a reply, the cross-posting only works for "top" tweets.
Replies and retweets are excluded from the service.

No worries. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the clarification. :)
