Preparing For Outreach At Calvary Methodist, Santase
Our lives are defined by opportunities even the ones we missed
So in our previous post Educational session with calvary methodist last week Sunday myself and brother Charles went to Calvary Methodist Church at Santase to have a health talk with the congregation after which we told them that we will be planning a free eye screening service for them the subsequent Sunday which happened to be just the immediate past Sunday. Am glad to say it went on successfully and that I will be updating steemians on all that went on and what went into the preparation and the whole process.
Preparing for an outreach as always is never an easy thing to do since we work with lots of instruments most of which we do not owe as a group just yet, because of which we have to hire them, on this outreach, we went with a trial case set, four ophthalmoscopes, two retinoscopes, two visual acuity charts for distance, two near acuity charts, some drugs and some spectacles. Due to the month being an eye awareness month we had the instruments been lend to us for free and we must say we are very grateful for the help of our sponsors and benefactors.
Irrespective of this however there were still lots of costs involved which hopefully will be fully delineated in another post but until then lets see how the whole process went in the subsequent posts. Special thanks to @anaman and @mcsamm for helping us pull this outreach of successfully, and we are grateful to @anaman for gracing the occasion with his presence.
Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were mean to to be.
What is @bettervision about?
@bettervision is is a project initiated by @nattybongo and friends to give back to the society the knowledge and skill acquired through the Optometric Studies in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. It is an outreach system where we visit the less privileged communities to offer free eye screening services and education to the people within the community
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To reduce or prevent vision loss through diseases such as glaucoma, cataract and refractive errors.
To enlighten the majority of the Ghanaian population about the importance of proper visual care.
To conscientize people on the need for regular eye checks
To get more people to have their wards screened within the Critical periods of a Child’s Vision Development; thus from ages 3 to till about 10 years.
To help the blind and people with low vision live a better life within the society through education of the general public to stop stigmatization.
Our greatest gratitude goes to @fundition @adollaraday, @surfyogi @girlsfoundation @bleepcoin @ackza and @wafrica for helping to make the aims and objectives of @bettervision a reality.
This is me @nattybongo reporting for @bettervision. Thanks for your time
