VEGAN CORNISH PASTIE
Ahoy me maties, what be Cornwall most know for then, nay not pirates, it be well known for it's pasties ye Scallywags, and this be me entry for fruitsandveggiesmonday with @lenasveganliving. OK no more pirate voice, interesting facts about pasties, they have been around since the 13th century, and only later between 17 and 18th century miners would take them for lunch, the top part would be a like a handle to hold with their dirty hands, and they would eat around the handle and chuck it away when finished. I used to love eating this as a kid, yip belive it or not you can buy Cornish pasties in South Africa, so I did what I do with everything I used to like, I veganized the hell out it. So to make it vegan I replaced the lard in the pastry, and instead of beef bits I used Soya mince. So to start off with it is best to prepare the pastry because it needs to stay in the fridge for a while, the pastry is really easy and a bullet proof recipe.
Pasty ingredients
235g plain flour
120g vegan margarine
Pinch of salt
50ml cold water
So flour is in a bowl
Margarine and a pinch of salt
Mix it thoroughly and add cold water
Then keep on mixing until it is like dou
Then wrap it up in parchment paper and keep it in the fridge
Now to make the filling, these are the goodies you need there was a little left over 😉, for work
Ingredients
160g Soya mince
2 onions
2 potatoes
Half a swede
5 cloves of garlic
4 table spoons of soy sauce
1 table spoon vegan gravy powder
500ml water
First chop and saute the onions and garlic
Then add 4 table spoons of soy sause
Add 500ml of water
Chop up the swede into cubes and chuck it in the pot
Add a pinch of salt and pepper
Chop the potatoes into cubes and in they go
Then throw in the soya mince
Let it cook until potatoes are cooked about 20 minutes
Then add a table spoon gravy powder
Keep stirring while it simmers for a few minutes and switch off, then prep heat oven medium heat.
Get the pastry and divide by three
Roll out each like so
Place in shallow bowl like so
Put in some filling
Wrap it up nice and snug
Place them on a tray
Coat in plant based milk
Bake for about 45 minutes
Make some spicy wedges and salad
And there you go an awesome vegan cornish pastie
Love it! These kind of remind me of pot pies. My Dad was a pot pie fanatic 🤷🏼♀️ I wonder how the dough would do with a gluten free flour? Maybe I should try it out and let you know. You could virtually stuff the bad boys with anything… yum 😋. Great entry @gguy773 !
I recon it would taste awesome with gluten free, yeah let me know
Will do

Oh my goodness, that looks fantastic Greg, especially front of a fire place. The perfect combination for the cold Canadian season we are having. I enjoyed your pirate voice too and a little bit of history about this yummy Cornish pastie. Very interesting 🍒 🍌🍑🌿🍍🍓🍇

You have really taken #fruitsandveggiesmonday by storm @gguy773! Well done on the vegan cornish pie (Really? Another South African?!) I'm too much of a health nut to go with the marg or soy but I'll use natural alternatives. And as @puravidaville says going to try a gluten free version. Super impressive!
Thanks buckaroo, why are there lots of South Africans?
Hardly lots. Best to ask my brother @craigcryptoking as he's on Discord and knows a lot of the #teamsouthafrica crowd. I am more in the health and homesteading circles although I know @breezin and @cryptoandcoffee
Not a bad attempt for a novice lol. The crimp is nothing like a genuine Cornish Pasty though and adding garlic is so wrong it's a crime in my homeland. I bet it's delicious though. You will find the Cornish Pasty all over North and South America as well as Australia and New Zealand. Any where there was mining in the world really. Dates back to when the English scum robbed us of our homeland and striped it of all its wealth. After they were forced into poverty around half of the population left were forced to leave to find work. As a Cousin Jack myself I appreciate a reminder of my homeland. Good work.
