Friday Rocks | #6

After the Rose Quartz let me present today the purple colour variety of quartz, Amethyst.

I have one bigger piece with nice crystals, two small pieces and tumbled stone.

I knew that amethyst was used as gemstone. Curious as ever I started reading and I found these interesting facts:

  • Ancient Egyptians used it for gems
  • Ancient Greeks believed that it could help them when they got drunken against intoxication.
  • In the Middle Ages, soldiers wore amethyst for protection in battles.
  • Anglican bishops got amethyst rings.
  • The deposits of this mineral are big enough to keep the price low so the gems to be affordable.
  • it is used for faceted stones, cabochons, beads, tumble stones and other ornamental objects.
  • Amethyst is also a name of a colour, thanks to the stone

Fact sources - Wikipedia and Geology.com

Even though Bulgaria is small country, there are deposits of different minerals and amethyst also can be found here. I am afraid I have no idea where exactly my stones come from. This time I lost their traces and I think that the small pieces my son bought from the musuem (Earth and Man National Museum) while the big crystal one I bought from a local shop in my hometown.

The tumbled stone reflects the light on its polished surface and pictures were not good enough, but the crystals are not so bad.

The crystals at the edges become transparent when I took close-ups. Also the light helps in addition.

Very cool, I hope to find some Amethyst crystal clusters one day. I hear they exist around me but I have yet to find any.

That would be awesome! I wish you best of luck finding amrthyst!

I've always thought that amethyst was beautiful. Your pieces are no exception! I really like the close ups of your large piece. Very pretty!!

Thank you for joining the #fridaysrock tag!

Thank you very much.😀

I love how fridaysrock transitions to bouldersunday. Perhaps we need an intermediate day too @shasta?

#Saturdaysflow with lakes and streams and oceans?
or
#saturdaysshine, with sunshine on things?

These are good suggestions. You can initiate a new challenge with these tags.

By their beauty you can see why the ancients would desire them.

Yes, the ancients knew better.
