5 Minute Freewrite-Day 10-Splinter
Pain is what I got from a splinter. My mom told me not to walk barefoot on the dock when I walked to the boat because I might get a splinter. I was just a child then and she was right. I got a painful splinter and I had no idea that mom was going to perform surgery on my foot.
She sat me down and told me that she had to pull it out so my foot would not get infected. Cotton balls, tweezers, alcohol, peroxide, and bandaids. Oh no...what was she going to do to me? Wait, I forgot about the matches. What? Matches? What for? I watched as she lit the match and put the tweezers tip in the fire. I found out later that was to steralize the tweezers. Oh, I forgot the magnifying glass that she used to find the tip of the splinter. A whimper, ouch, ouch and a few tears as I held my foot and mom pulled it out. She dabbed my foot with cotton balls filled with peroxide and I knew she was finished when the bandaid was placed. A kiss on my forehead and I was all better.
My Mom always made things right, bright and good in my world. Thanks Mom. I love you and miss you so much. Thanks for all of the boo-boo's you fixed on my body, in my heart, and mind.

This is beautiful! Almost got my tears down on my cheeks thinking of my girls now and some day they are much older... maybe they would think of me digging out the splinters from their feet :)
